Well Southwest Louisiana was affected by Ike also - we did NOT receive the really bad winds - ours was only 50-65 mph with a few gust up to around 80-85 mph. But we have had tremendous amounts of water from the storm surge.
All of Cameron Parish & a good marjority of Calcasieu Parish is flooded - as you will probably remember 3 yrs ago on Sept 24, 2005 our area was devasted by Hurricane Rita. Most of the people that have been harmed by Hurricane Ike are just getting or maybe close to getting everything repaired from "Rita" and are now going to have to start over again.
I am my ofc today - one section of our dept. the Creole sect had just moved back to their new ofc in April of this yr - their ofc is flooded completely - today they are moving back to a vacant ofc next to mine. Trying to smile, laugh & be positive about it - but you can tell they are worried about their homes.
Praying it doesn't take another 3 yrs to recover.
Thank you so much for your prayers & thoughts - please continue to pray for 2 men & their families - these men were electrocted yesterday. They are from Oklahoma - came down to work with the local power companies to restore power - don't have an update for their condition today - last we heard they had 3rd degree burns and were in serious condition - please pray for comfort for their families who are unable to get here to see them - I'm sure they are worried. It is sad for anyone to get injuried, but especially those who reach out to help others in difficult situations.
Also sending out prayers for our recovery friends in Texas - know that you got most of the wind & lots of water damage too - please be safe!
HUGS, Rita

As I told Kitty, I can imagine or pretend to know what you all are going thru. How tough it is for you all. Hope for a speedy recovery. And good thoughts for the workers.
Glad you are safe too. I surely hope it doesn't take as long to recover from Ike. Prayers for the men and their families too. Stay safe, and keep us posted. Love and blessings to you and your family.
Live strong, Karilynn & Pipers Kitty
