Help me out with some feed back?

Well I did it!  I gave my notice at my job.  I am kind of getting into the should/shouldn't mode here but I have to go forward with what is done.

I just want to run my reasoning by you my roomies and see what you think.  Monday the 1st is labor day and it is a time and a half pay day for here.  I guess they decided since I am the part time person that they would give the time and a half day to the full time people. Although the holiday is my scheduled day to work I am now off that day and my schedule instead of Saturday off Sunday and Monday on and Tuesday and Wednesday off is now Saturday off Sunday on Monday off Tuesday on and Wednesday off.

For me this just doesn't work.  When I spoke to my boss, she said she gives the holidays to her full time people.  This just doesn't sit well with me.  I don't know about the legalities of the whole thing, but since the schedule doesn't change from week to week, my mind can not accept the whole thing.

Anyway I have my resume polished up and a few prospects out there.  I know there are better things for me on the horizon.  I can always head back home too, which with my small monthly check I can at least cover the bills.  So I know I will be ok.

Have you ever heard of such a thing??  My mind is playing a tape that I am a bit of a spoiled brat, but then there is a back bone in there telling me ..."if it's not working for you it not working"

Could ya give me some feed back?

Carol

If it's not working, it's not working.  If you are not asking anyone else to support you, you don't owe anyone any reason for quitting.  Since you were only working part time, it doesn't sound like one of those career builder jobs, but just a job.  They come, they go.  If you aren't happy there, and think you can find something else, do what you want.

On the legality side, as far as the laws *here* go, they are on iffy ground.  They don't have to work you and give you the time and half, but if Monday is your regularly scheduled day, and you worked the Monday before and are scheduled to work the Monday after, and if you have worked there more than three months, you need to be paid for the day.  So, if you have the day off, you should be paid for your regular shift.  Of course, taking them to court about it is more trouble than the lost pay, and they count on that.  Also, the law may be different where you are.  For me, this is the kind of thing I don't even think about if I am happy with a job, and it can be a dealbreaker if I'm not.

Hey, here is my take:

What slips aways/doesn't come through/you lose will make room for something even better! Of this, I am certain. I have seen this happen so many times. You decide to pass on a new job offer, you do not get a job you want, etc. its all going to be GOOD, just keep a great attitude and believe in wonderful things coming into your life because THEY ARE! Hugs, J.

Leave your job on the best foot as you can.  Searching applicant's references is easier than ever now because of many companys that specialize in this and because of the internet. Although, the "law" says they can ONLY give your job title and dates of employment, their TONE of voice says a lot. Plus, most don't stick by the rules. They tell much more. Especially if they want to get even with you. I've been studying the world of HR because I was looking for work. A lot of companies have policies that you agreed to. The big question HR people like to slip-in is : Are they eligible for "rehire." And, in the companies policy it probably says something like: if your work was acceptable AND you give PROPER notice, you could be considered for rehire. So, don't walk off the job or make a fuss over a day that happens to be a holiday for crying out loud.

And, I know this is a little petty job for you. But, skipping over jobs or explaining "gaps" in your employment history is a loosing stategy. My advice: Be the best employee they have right up to moment you pull out of the parking lot! Pretend, if you have to!
