On top of gieving for the loss of my beloved Tim, Pipers needs your prayers. She hasn't been eating and has been lethargic and coughing. I ran her down to the vets at the local PetSmart. Our vet lives 35 miles away, doesn't make house calls and I don't drive.
She has a fever and they are running bloodwork and giving her IV. I managed to borrow $500 from a friend because she won't let me sell my Mom's ring. I can't loose my Pipers on top of my Tim. Please say a prayer for her. I need my girl. They are keeping her overnight. I don't want to come home to an empty house. She's all I have left and I can't loose her. I'm going to try and get through work.
Please say extra prayers for both of us. This is the hardest thing I have ever been through and loosing her would just put me over the edge.

My pets both had some physical illnesses after my husband died, that the vets thought were mostly due to the stress of the loss and the way household routine went so haywire in the weeks after. I hope that this is the case for Pipers kitty, and that she's really just fine.
i have hope that we all move on to better things... a new world/life beyond any human comprehension. while it makes me sad to not have loved ones still in this life, i choose to be happy that they have reached the next part of their journey.
i agree that pets do mourn, also... and also, they have an uncanny way of feeling their human companion's grief and other emotions.
it is also my opinion that there is literally millions of little and not so little companions with wet noses that are waiting for someone as caring as you to give them a home and new life.

My Bailey didn't eat for 6 days when we kenneled her to go to Disney. The kennel called me to ask if he could feed her some steak which of course I said yes. He had never had a dog that lasted as long as she did without food. He also let her in his house which he told us he never did.
Like others said, Pipers is probably grieving Tim too.

I do think Kitty's grieve. My darling Ruby went through a time of not eating when her pal Benny died. I was beside myself. She came through it. My prayers are with you.
