Where I live, a law has recently been passed that cell phones must be hands-free when you are driving. I find it silly only in that dialing and texting are still okay. Huh? Anyhow, I lost my bluetooth device (that I had since Dec) about a week after the law came into effect and I haven't bought a new one yet because I want to make sure the old one doesn't turn up. Confession here... I sometimes still sneak a call and try and hide the phone under my hair.
So, today was one of those days, and while I was driving home and engaged in "violation", and I saw a Highway Patrol on the side of the road. In fear, I dropped the phone. I was certain he was sitting there just waiting to nab me and other yappy cell phone felons to come along. Then, I see another patrol car, then another, then another. About, oh, 6-8 cars later I realized that they were not sitting there to catch me or any other cell-phone wielding cohort. They were there to, get this, ..... protect the President of the United States! I drove right by him in the motorcade. It was obvious which car he was in, but impossible to see in the darkened windows. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed to discover all the people lined up on the side of the road weren't there to see me get pulled over either.
Glad I can still laugh.
Blessings, Lou

Do you see how lucky you are???? How many people would just happen to drive by the president and a ton of cops while doing something illegal. That must be birthday luck!
Here in NY, we have had that no talk and drive law for years. I have gotten two tickets. Which I will admit is out of sheer stupidity on my part. I know the law, I got the ticket, paid my 125 dollars and then didn't have enough money to buy a headset...hence the second ticket. Duh!
So, The Pres saved your butt!!! Good Job, Pres (and that is where I will leave it!)
P.S. Did you do the Nonchalant-drop-the-phone-from-your-ear-act-as-if-you-were-picking-your-ear-move? Cause that's what I do and it cracks up whoever is in the car with me at the time. One minute I am talking away and the next the phone is on the floor and I am acting as if I have something in my ear....LOL!
I put mine on speaker phone and sit it on my arm rest so I'm driving down the freeway yelling into my arm rest all the time. Pathetic! Better get a head set I guess....
As I was reading your post, I was just thinking about driving and breaking the law and how funny the law can be. Yes, I undersand the concept of eliminating the cell phones while driving, I was even rear ended once by a teenage driver on a cell phone. I think they even passed a law like that in Louisiana too. But come on law making people... why not make it harder on DWI. Being an insurance agent, I am sure that I will start see driving while talking violatons on peoples driving records and insurance rates will rise. But I am just as sure that I will still have people sit across my desk and say...I have a DWI, but it won't show up on my record because I got it fixed. I want to see how many peopl wil get their talking while driving tickets fixed, probably none, the DA's office are gonna want those fines.
Thanks for your sense of humor, it calmed me down after I was all reved up....LOL
I have the perfect solution to all this: I DO NOT OWN A CELL PHONE!!! Hard to believe isn't it? The cars have "On Star" which I can use in case of emergency. I don't feel the need to have a telephone with me. I prefer the quiet enjoyment of my own company.

Ok Serendipity, How did you get caught? Because I live in NY state also and must tell you nearly every car I see has someone talking on their cell phone in it. Maybe you are just so cute that the police just want to stop you to get a closer look!! It appears that New Yorkers do whatever they happen to feel like and if somebody doesn't like it, well, just honk at 'em! Right?!
