surgery over

My surgery went without a hitch on Monday. By Tuesday I was up walking and by that afternoon had my chest tube removed.  I came home today.  So all went well...except that the nodule on my lung was indeed a malignant sarcoma. It was a mestasis from the primary leg tumor of last year.  The standard treatment is to take it out, which is over and done.  Now on to the other lung eventually, I guess.  I was not surprised that it was sarcoma.  It would have been way too much to expect it not to be when that is so common with sarcoma.

I thank everyone for remembering me with thoughts and prayers.  I am grateful to be home and feeling somewhat normal.  I tell you, these new high-tech surgeries (mine was video assisted thoracic surgery), are amazing!  The old way was to cut the chest open!! I am grate for technology.

My family situation is tough right now.  My son's job, which has been in jeopardy for awhile due to the times, is now gone.  He is unemployed.  Very bad for him and very hard for the rest of us.  I know he is not alone in this situation.  He hasn't taken it very well and I can only hope that it will not increase his battle with sobriety since he goes that alone....refuses meetings or help of any kind.

Glad to be back.

Sounds amazing, and grateful too for modern technology...wow!

So sorry for your son, he is not alone it this and it seems to be a trend that is not getting better. I do hope he will not wallow, but use this time to put real energy and time into his recovery programme now.

So holding you all in prayer.

Suzannah

I am very happy your sugery went smoothly & you are back on your feet. Nice to have so many new members of the Board.  I know it must be so difficult to detach from your child as he struggles. Most A's cannot stay sober w/out a lot of support. Make sure you stay focused on yourself, no matter what he chooses to do. Help is all around for any of us, if we want it.

It has taken me forever to re-apply the Prgram in all areas of my life again. My resistence only hurt me. My mother still doesn't understand why I feel the need to be in al-anon at all, she's not interested in therapy. Her AH is very active drinking & after having him in my life for 28 years, I don't get why my mom doesn't understand I need help coping & changing. We all do have unique experiences. I wish I could help her more but have had to let it go & work on me, it's all I can do, anyway. We all can reach out, at any time. I am having to stop myself from thinking about anyone else's mentality & stay focused on me. It is something I have never done before.

Good luck to you, be kind to yourself, keep posting & sharing.

Good to see you back and posting! (((hugs)))

My sponsor had lung surgery about 5 years ago, and it sure was a slow process to recuperate. He got the good old chest cut open and said the worst pain was the healing of the muscles they cut through.

As always, you and yours remain in my prayers!

So glad to hear that step went well.  Sounds like you were prepared to hear bad news, so even that, in a way, went as well as such a thing can.   With your husband and son both in their different illnesses, they won't be taking care of you, so remember to take care of yourself!  All the pampering and loving care you would give to someone else, make sure you give to you.

Aloha Joyoma!!

Great that the surgery went smoothly and to hear the gratitude for the new
tech.  Now is time for you.  Drop all the other exhausting and crazy stuff for
a time and be kind to yourself.   What do you think it feels like to be loved
and cared for by you?

Glad to hear that the surgery went well.  Having a positive outlook when you are sick is so important.  I'm sorry about your son's job.  Hopefully something will come his way.  Take good care of yourself.  I am so glad that there is all this new fangled surgery out there.  Alot less invasive.  Makes it so much easier on the patient.  Love and blessings to you and your family.

I am so glad your surgery went smoothly. You are so resilient, esp in your attitude. I am glad you are back so soon.

Your son is more than capable of handling this job loss. Maybe he will find his bottom soon. Detach, detach, detach. Right now is the time to lovingly care for yourself and let other adults learn to take care of themselves.

I'm just glad you are back.

Love in recovery,
