Understanding Alcoholism

Hello all, here's a link to an article I published on the web and would love for you all to view it and rate it.  Thanks so much!

Here's another article I wrote, called living with Alcoholim.

Thanks for all the wonderful support on here that everyone gives.

I think the first article is very dangerous, and very much like the (lack of) quality that I would expect watching a show like Dr. Phil....  To say that the "only option if your alcoholic doesn't want treatment" is an intervention is not even close to the truth.

I considered deleting this thread, as a board moderator, but keep getting reminded over and over about how "all input has some value".  I would encourage readers to truly "take what they like, and leave the rest", as this article had me unimpressed at best.

In recovery,
Tom

What other options are there?  You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make 'em drink.

You must have hit on something personal for C-guy?  I know my views tend to get a little heated when it hits close to home for me.

Your view of living with all this may be different from others or seem very similar to some- one thing for sure living with someone else's drinking hurts, some it hurts physically, some financially, some emotionally and for some all of the above.

IF anyone had ALL the answers we wouldn't be here, we would be busy being happy healthy people. So all information is valuable and yours is appreciated.

I didn't intend to be hurtful in my remarks, but I find the article to be extremely dangerous....  In my humble opinion, interventions come very close to contradicting the "Three C's", as it almost suggests that we can cure another person's alcoholism.  I'm not against interventions, per se - I just believe that they are highly dangerous, and should be handled with experts involved....

I just didn't like the statement that this is the "only" choice available..... I believe what the majority of the books/experts tend to say - that there is no clearcut "path to recovery", but it typically does involve that person being "sick and tired of being sick and tired", it often happens when that person has reached "his or her bottom", and many times they finally have become "more fearful of being drunk than they are of being sober".
