What would your advertisement look like??

The beer companies paint pictures of "hot" young girls, beautiful "rocky mountains" a room full of "friends" etc. Are all these supposed to represent what drinking will "bring' you.

What would our ad campains look like??

I always had a picture of cars crashed, jobs lost, people being unfaithful to eachother, domestic violence, etc. And I know those things are a sad sad part of living with alchohol sometimes too.

But as we know there is so much more that is sad but sometimes "hidden" sometimes for generations.

Money problems that are sometimes not traced back to Alcohol.

Missed opportunties for the whole family and or for the A because everyone is so focused on the drinking. Lives not lived as fully as they could be.

People who live life on the defense, Children who can't trust or feel valuable.

People who end up being labled (and sometimes are) control freaks, and are that way because of reaction to the drinking and or trying to cope the only way we know how- sometimes we don't even know we are trying to cope-it just becomes automatic and frustrating.

Anyway all the "hidden" things we discover in alanon.

If you could create a commercial to show the world what it really is like what would yours look like?

What a great question.

Mine would be a  gal and guy looking like walking skeletons, showing their heart on their chest with the real person being held captive, they are running all over chasing a bouncing can of beer, liquor bottles, needles pill bottles, crack pipes, hookas,bongs....bouncing to gross  alleys,er signs, gross liquor stores, money flying above and away from them

Behind them you see houses, trees, gardens, flowers, motorcycles, picnic stuff, barbecues going and on and on.

Then ya see there are kids, wife husband, mom and dad, dog, cat, and piggy, with their heads down, with tears falling, and their hearts broke in half.

Yep there is mine.

Thank you Glad. love, debilyn who tires from all these bandaids on my heart and gut

I never really thought about that.
Why don't they put something up about how aism destroys the family!
We are all out here, does no one see us?
What are the percentages of alcohol abuse?
i remember when i was little, 1960's No one talked about drinking problems
it was very rampant on my fathers side of the family. (hard core r and r drinkers)

Am i ashamed that my H is and A? My sister is an A? My dad.........etc
Is it still a stigma, ?

Thanks for letting me ramble

Great post Glad!!

One of mine would be a very large plushy room with a super king sized bed
covered with satin red covers and silk sheets and me lounging against over
sized pillows holding a pull cord in my hand.   Hot music is playing in the back
ground and this very gorgeous woman is standing by the door holding a
martini with an olive and an onion in her hand wearing a naughty nighty.  She
takes a deep sip of the martini and moves toward me.  I pull the cord.  The
scene goes pitch black.  Only sounds remain...Me snoring and she bumping into
furniture.

Great post!!  biggrin

How about a Coors beer commerical, with the "Silver Bullet Train" speeding up to a railroad crossing, sliding to a stop instead of going through, and loading up  an Al-Anoner's who waiting at the at the crossing. All of them happy, and laughing. But, at the same time as the train slowly pulls off,the Coors flag on the front of the train is lowered to half mass. The train slowly creeps through the crossing and up the tracks. At the same time a caption rolls across the bottom of the screen. (saying) We are sorry for any pain or suffering we at Coors may have caused your family and love ones, but we are glad you found Al-Anon, and are in your recovery. I promise you we will see this commerical one day. Look for it, because it will be the same day gasoline comes down to 59 cents a gallon again!!!!!!!!!! RLC

My ad would be like it all raining and pouring and tornados and destruction.
And then the sun gradually gets brighter and brighter.
And then the sun shows little workers rebuilding the village
And it says
When you're done feeling destroyed
Get al anon
