The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
I saw this poem posted in a doctor's office the other day...I suppose it was meant to be funny...but I saw a deeper meaning.
I'm Lost
I've lost myself.
If I return when
I get back, please
ask me to wait.
This got me to thinking about how many lost people there are out there and that before al-anon I used to be one of them. I had lost myself. I had no idea who I was. I only knew who the alcoholic was and what he wanted and when and where and how much (or so I thought). I didn't even know when I had returned to myself that I was back...or that I should wait for myself to catch up to me.
Now I know, thanks to al-anon, to take care of me and the rest will fall into place. If I wait for me, I will catch up. Just for Today I can wait for me. I may not be there just yet, but that's ok, because I will get back eventually...if I just give myself enough time.
I have lost myself. I can identify with your post.
I also am gaining through the al-anon principles the means to get myself back.
At lunch today I drove around my new neighborhood and found them - the mountain bike paths I had read about on the internet. They promise me endless wonderful hours exploring the woods, shaking the cobwebs from my strained mind and away from the chaos of my home
Peace and thank-you

If you want things you never had you need to do things you have never done
Hi java - How well I reember knowng everything about the a not realizing that in the chaos I had lost myself.
After I was divorced and in my own place, I looked around one day and realized the little things around, like ashtrays, etc. were what my ex would have picked out. I immediately went out and bought a crystal ashtray. I also realized that fall was NOT my favorite time of year - spring IS my favorite.
It took a lot of years of al-anon for me to begin to find out who I am - and I'm still learning.
I'm so grateful to al-anon for giving me back and for a Higher Power that allows me to get-to-know myself one day at a time.
thank you for the good post. That is the way I feel that I am doing. I am looking for my self, on the things I like and don't like. How I should handle my anger. How I can get out of situation that I feel uncomfortable in.
