Alcohol claims another

My daughter just called, her fiance's Mother died this morning at the age of 48.
She was a professional, a biologist. She fought hard for the last few yrs to overcome the disease.
She was a kind hearted woman with a huge alcohol problem. She was so looking forward to our kids wedding (which has no date). I don't know the particulars but my guess is she had tried to stop drinking yet again, and this time it was too much for her body.

Her struggle is over.

Christy

p.s.  She left behind a 10 yr old disabled daughter, a 17 yr old daughter and Nate, 27.

May she be at peace now.

This disease kills and I often have to remind myself of that.

Next month it will be one year since my alcoholic ex-husband was buried. He was 47.

I will keep the family in my prayers tonight, Christy ((((hugs))))

I heard something from my best friend that my other best friend said in relation to the death of her 4 year old daughter last August....she said she does not want her daughter's death to be bigger than her life was. I think that is the most profound thing I have ever heard. And I will try my best to make sure that my kids realize that death is final, it is the final thing we do with our lives but it is not the whole of our lives.

I send my prayers to you and your daughter and the woman's family. I think the circumstances of a person's death really do matter and effect the way we grieve but in the end, the sorrow is the same for the life lost.

Thanks all for your sincere thoughts. This woman tried 3x that I know of in the past 4 yrs to get sober. She did want it really badly and literally died trying.

I talked to my daughter later this evening and that is exactly what happened. She was trying to detox at home and waited too long to go to the hosp. She went through the same torment my husband did, only she didn't make it. She was already too far in to renal failure when she got there.

You're right seren, her life was much more important then her death...and bless her heart, she fought for it and lost.

Christy - it breaks my heart a little more each time I hear a story like this. May her family be able to find some peace through all of this. This just reminds us all how fatal this disease is - and how fragile life is in general.

Keeping all of you in my prayers.

Peace,
R3

Sorry to hear about your loss.  Did your fiance Mother have any liver damage before her death? I'm just curious because my ABF has mild liver damage.
