OK, THAT was scary!!!!

I'm up before dawn because we had a 5.4 eathquake!!! I live in Missouri!!! Not Califormia!! The epicenter was near the Indiana line so it was a pretty hefty shake. Thats two states away! It lasted about 15 seconds. According to the news there are roads closed because of debris.

I got up right after it happened and turned on the TV but they weren't saying anything yet so I went back to bed. I laid there for about 45 min. and then started getting really creeped out. Why didn't the TV have breaking news or something? That left me thinking...OK, if it wasn't a earthquake then it was a scene from the Excorcist...LOL!!!
I didn't like that idea at all and couldn't go back to sleep so I got up and checked again. My little Jack Russel didn't seem to be much protection. He jumped off the bed and ran.
Whew!! It was an earthquake. Which is MUCH, MUCH better then having your bed shaken by some unseen entity LOL!! sheesh!!
So much for sleep!!!
Reports are coming in of broken gas line breaks, cracked house foundations etc

Christy

I did hear something on the news this morning about an earthquake but was not paying attention to where it was.

I'm with you....I will take an earthquake over something like the exorcist anytime. I was a mess for a very long time after I saw that movie. Still can't watch it today.

Glad you are safe

Wow, glad you are ok. I guess we just aren't ever safe are we? I woke up way too early to hear the news on the radio about the earthquake in mid-America. This is strange. I am in Arizona and use to hearing about the California quakes. They always say that I will be living by the beach when California falls into the ocean. Who knows, maybe the earth is changing and you will be living by the beach!

In support,
Nancy

hmmmm.......

David62 puts on his black robes he picked up at Goodwill, sticks a couple of left over air sickness bags in his pockets and heads north to get a little "exorcise" this morning..and maybe sprinkle a little soda water around Christy's house to prevent further attempts at the houses levitation!!!  biggrin

Sorry Christy, you just got all kinds of visions going in my head with that one!!  An earthquake in  Missouri!!!??!! shocked.gif

Wowzers...what a way to get awoken!

Have a great day my friend!  Glad you are safe and not in need of a real visit from...(insert dramatic music here)...the Exorcist.

OH!  If Linda Blair knocks on your front door, you are NOT home!!!!  smile

Yours in Recovery, and dressed in black!

David

We've had a couple here in upstate NY over the years but none as big as the one you just went thru (I believe). I remember thinking it was the cat on the bottom of the bed scratching herself. But she wouldn't stop!

I am glad you are ok and not possesed or anything!!!

Just to let ya'll know it was felt all the way down in East Tennessee too!!
It woke my son up at 4:30 a.m. as he was sleeping on the floor in the living room (fell asleep infront of t.v.)
Kind of freaked him out. I'm about 25 miles away from my mom's house (where my son lives) and felt nothing. of course I wasn't on the floor either!LOL!! I didn't find out about it until Michael read something about it online this morning.

It does freak one out when living in the central U.S. I hope you're ok now Christy.

We're still getting after schocks 6 hrs. later.  The last one was about 3.5.
I unplugged my phone so when I got back to sleep (when the sun was coming up) no one would wake me up.  I forgot about my cell phone..grrrrr
So, at least I got about 4 hrs sleep.

The dog keeps jumping up and standing at attention.  He must feel the smaller ones.  They said there's been about 6, which are also quakes, just smaller.
Kids are out of school in the city because the buildings are old.  It's quite the exciting thing today.

David, you're too funny.  Linda Blair at my door!  LOL!!
(gulp)  Door is locked now.weirdface

Ok Christy, that beats the one I experienced earlier this year by several magnitudes.  I am pleased to hear that you are safe.  After shocks 6 hours on...cannot be very reassuring.

Not into scary movies...but so appreciate the earthquake scare. Saying prayers for you and hoping that the devastation was not too horrific...praying also for all those that were affected by this event.

Lots of love,
Suzannah

Pretty nerve-racking, aren't they?

After the two big quakes we had here in the islands a couple years ago in October, I was jumpy for MONTHS. I'd hear a car drive by with heavy base going, I'd go into auto "get into the hallway!" mode because the heavy base just sounded sooo much like the earthquakes.

Glad you're okay!

((((Christy)))))

I know what you were feeling..I live in California and I can tell you I know what you are/were feeling.  It's kinda unsettling to see things move that aren't supposed to move..or feel the ground move.
I know it sure plays havoc with my mind.  Oh and the aftershocks..just when you feel you are settling down inside..whoops there goes another one.
Last big one we had here the cat went under the bed and didn't come out for two days...hubby had to get him out of there.
Hang in there...it will pass with time...Take good care of you.

your friend in recovery,
rosie

ROFL!!!! Shake, rattle and roll!! Good way to get your heart started, eh? LOL As a native Californian I think I've gotten quite used to those. Of course, I've always lived in areas/homes which aren't that susceptible to quake damage. (Yes, it can make a big difference what ground you're on, etc.) Would never ever live over Frisco way...their ground is like quicksand for that. Anyhoo, did you know we've had little twisters in Los Angeles area before? So see, normally that would be a midwest thing. Perhaps we're just sharing one another's natural disasters now... teehee. Glad all is ok for you... they're only fun if no one is hurt or nothing important damaged.
