Working on me...

As many of you know I am FAT...  not just a little fat but really fat.  So I have decided to go back on the atkins diet and this time have decided to add in some exercising.  So I am getting up an hour earlier (I love to sleep) and going down to the work out room in the morning and doing cardio on the treadmill for 20 minutes every morning (I figure I'll increase the time as I get thinner and can endure more).  So I hate sweating, I hate the choking feeling when my heart beats faster, I wouldn't say it's painful (now that I'm done but at the time it seems so).  So I am seriously invading my comfort zone here with #1 waking up early and #2 exercising (I have never been an exerciser).  This morning went well, I am going to try to pay attention to how I feel (hopefully stronger and healthier and less stressed out).  I'm going to try to do this for 21 days to make it a habit (later on the weekends...).  I'm hoping that this is something that I can maintain.  I have also decided that instead of looking at the big picture of I need to lose 100+ pounds that I just need to lose 20 and keep it off and then 20 more and so on until I get to where I want to be.  Smaller baby steps toward a HUGE goal but I wont think about the huge goal just each step.  My mom is coming to visit in 2 months and I'd like to drop at least 2 of those 20 pounds by then!  Not to mention it's almost summer time!  I have tons of reasons to do this and only one not to (I love sugar... it is my addiction).  I have decided that I will do whatever it takes to be thinner/healthier.  I also recommend the site 43things.  It gives ideas of things to do in life and you can make your own list and mark them off as you accomplish them.  I have go parasailing and learn to scuba dive on mine and I plan on doing both of those by the end of the summer!

You GO!!clap.gif

I am also working on the weight thing.I left my stressful desk job in 2006 and deliberately chose a job that puts me on my feet and gives me exercise.I can no longer say I am sedentary.I hate formal exercise too so this way I get paid for it.There are also other things about the job I like.
I'm not addicted to sweet foods,my problem is salty snacks. But I am stuck on Coca Cola.....can't seem to get it out of my life.

You can do this, CG,look what you have accomplished already!

Just remember, like the Alanon program, it's PROGRESS,not perfection.

Sugar is huge for me.  I also like carbs and fat!  I am significantly overweight and have been working on walking my dogs twice a day. I'm glad you have this goal.

I know for me the diet of lots of salad, clear soup and three meals a day works.  Yet organizing that is formidable for me.

I think is great to set small goals for yourself.  I know for me I can hide whether its summer or winter and like you I certainly hate to sweat

For me its now a health issue. I now have to take medication once a month because I am significantly overweight.  I don't much enjoy the logistics of that.  I also hate being weighed when I go to the doctor.

My weight goes up and down like a yo yo.  I have a pattern of losing weight, being attractive, getting into a relatonship, being disappointed, withdrawing and turning to food. I go round in a circle with it.

I know you have conquered tremendous issues like giving up smoking which must have been tremendous. I am sure you can work towards this goal.

For me its no longer about being in a relationship its about feeling better about me.  Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Nah, I am boarderline for my height overweight. I just say I am proportional. Between my neck and my knees I am the spitting image of my great grandmother at age 97. Yup, I saw her naked!!! But I am ok with that because my body hasn't betrayed me yet. It's given me 3 beautiful, healthy kids and allowed me to nurse them exclusively. SO, I love it wrinkles, sags, stretch marks and all. No matter that I could knock myself out with my upper arms if I wave too vigirously!! But heath-wise, well that's where I stumble. And I am trying to get the mindset that I want to live to 97 and match my body so I need to take care of myself. That's what I admire in other women, when they simply desire to be healthy and take care of themselves. I didn't have that role model growing up.

We have a tribal health center here that is wonderful, but I don't have a vehicle at the moment or even the minimal fee it would cost. I'm hoping this summer I can start going again. I am not really overwieght. I could lose a few pounds, like 20 or so, but I am so weak and inflexible. I hate it. I used to be so strong, bucking hay and feed and doing heavy yard work and building stuff. Now it's an effort to just get my daily chores done. It really $uk-s!!!

I am glad you have a plan, CG. 21 days is not so bad, and it really does work. You will feel so much better. Keep us posted.

I really didn't know you were overweight. You always looked beautiful to me.

I have noticed that I have the same inner stress/withdrawl feelings that I got when I quit smoking and find myself SERIOUSLY craving a cigarette since not eating sugar all day.  Feeling the need to take DEEP breaths, like I'm missing something.  I think I felt this when I moved out too.  Stupid Stress!!!

Dear ((((CG))))
You sound so strong, I feel happy for you! On the subject of the diet....

My husband and I went on the Atkins Diet a few years ago. We both lost weight temporarily, but we put it back on. Eventually, we were both diagnosed with hormone imbalances....he ended up with adrenal fatigue and I was hypothyroid. We are currently both on hormone replacement therapy. Since then, I have met many people who tried the diet and also had a similar result. I encourage you to do your homework!!!

My personal experience....when I was still in denial, drinking margaritas every day with my AH, I had gained 30 lbs. When my depression became so severe, I went to a holistic doctor (who diagnosed the hormone imbalance.) He also put me on a cleanse (diet)....no sugar, no alcohol, no dairy, some other things..... and I lost all the weight within a month. It just melted off me. Ever since, I have maintained a (mostly) vegan diet and I seldom eat sugar....(which is a highly addicting substance that stimulates our appetite and depresses our immune function!!!!!)

I am glad for your post....because I just realized, this is probably the best way I take care of myself... I am conscious of what I put into my body. People ask me all the time how I stay so thin. I feel grateful I was pointed in the direction of that doctor, which was the beginning of my recovery.

thanks for that share, I'll definitely look into that. I did atkins once before and lost 70 lbs in 4 months. gained back about 40 of it but that has been over about 5 years. I was ON it then and I will be again. I usually do meat and veggies, such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, salad. nuts, berries and cheeses. I try to avoid all sugar and carbs as much as possible. My long term plan is to do this atkins variation until I get to the shape I want and then switch to another diet that allows carbs but only one meal a day and eaten all within an hour. When I did the atkins before I didn't include exercise, I'm hoping that changes the situation. Thanks for your concern. Better fat than dead? LOL Of course one leads to the other. Sometimes I wonder which is worse, fat or smoking? I know I don't have to choose tho, I can eliminate both as long as I can get through the first month!!!
