Laugh out loud!! Had a busy day yesterday from morning after the Super Saturday AFG meeting thru some business then over to some service work at the assembly and then home. I called my wife and asked about the plans my Son and his wife had about kite flying. It was still on. I haven't flown a kite since dirt was invented but it's not a complicated thing right? I mean how much control does a kite flyer have? My wife had told me that her boss and husband went kite flying and she bought herself a neeto standard kite. He wanted the 12 dollar dragon kite. I couldn't understand that my wife still is in denial about the male ego and needs system. I told her I wanted a dragon one. I got home, picked her up, went to the school yard and the breeze was perfect. I had a problem. While she was satisfied with a Sponge Bob Square Pants double tailed model....I got a Batman, Superman, Green Lantern job with a curly pig tail. Where's the dragon job? I got a somewhat "grow up" response with a sprinkling of "acceptance" suggestion and she was off...but only after constructing my kite. I could hardly touch it.

I got to my area and launched the pig taled thing and it went right up. I stood up flying it for a while and then decided to lay down on the grass and just hold the string cause that is all I was really needing to do at that time. Then I noticed the clouds in the clear sky....WOW one was shaped like a scorpion taking a bubble bath!! Another was like a large African snail bowling!! Wow my imagination was just running away. In the meantime the SBSP wifies kite was taking a few into the ground dives and was none of my problem. It wasn't one for her also cause she kept doing what kite flyers do and was still smiling. Then I notices that at times the wind stopped blowing and while I had to do some small maneuvers to keep the kite up there till the breeze picked up it always picked up and I just kept laying there..partially dozing yet...man I'm good!! Then a thought hit my beaner...I just hold the string and God just keeps on blowing and when the breeze quits it's because God turns his head away from me from time to time and it's really okay for God to turn his head away. He remembers me and my kite again and turns his head back and the kite goes up again.

The son, daughter-in-law and 2 grand-daughters show up and it's like the circus came to town. The had a big elaborate parrot kite and it spent most of the time perched nosed down on the ground and my daughter-in-law lost energy trying to get it to do what it was designed to do. Then my "nutsy" grand-daughter's Barbie kite refused to flight right even when it had two long pretty tails (no female kite comments). The other diamond kite didn't work either and SBSP kite of my wife was now going into retirement. My son is my son...m a c h o and very humorous. He had enough string to get his kite snagged on tourist helicopters if he wanted and when he was bringing it in he decided to use it to mess around with my still flying Superman, Batman, Green Lantern 3 dollar flyer!! God was still blowing and I was still benefiting.
I got ready to go. My back muscles were relaxed from laying on the grass. I had flown a kite for 2 hours and it had done me good. I watched my family at play and I still didn't have a dragon kite. Go figure.
From there to burgers and fries at McDonalds and more funniness and then home. I woke up very rested. I went into a great day and guess what God was still blowing. I might just take that 3 dollar Sm/Btm/GL kite for another spin again. Just might.
Just the long way of saying it works when you work it. Was thinking of you all.
Thanks for the fun share, Jerry. :) Glad you had a wonderful day. It was a glorious day here, yesterday on this side of the island - very windy - it must have all come over today for you to fly your kites. :)
My parents always brought kites to take our kids out flying and it worked out about the same way. The stupid trick kite I brought was unflyable but now I can relax and enjoy an elmo or barbie or superman kite - sweet time and I might even get my teen macho boys to still do that with their crazy mom.
Thanks for the reminder and for sharing your day - I'm relaxing as I see your kite flying up there too. oh happy days.......
hugs, ddub

I was about to head off to bed. Thanks for the bedtime story. Now I'll go lay down and count kites.

Thanks Jerry. You took me back to my kite flying days...just laying in the grass with my Tony the Tiger kite flying over head .
I went through a phase where I built my own two-stringer fighting kites....those are a blast to fly, when you have a lot wind...but not nearly so relaxing as just laying on the ground while the wind does all the work.
thanks for the visual...and the inspiration, I am gonna have to go get me a new kite!!!
they all laughed two years ago when I bought a £2 Seagull kite. And when we went up to a place nearby called The Beacon, the heighest place in middle England, there were HUGE stunt kites with so many strings they needed two people to fly them.
Of all the kites that were flying that day my 2bit Seagull beat the lot and my family were ALL plagueing me to have a go...why...'cos their sophisticated ones were not doing so well, and one guy who is always there with a magnificent bright blue and red and orange super tanker of a kite came over and offered me £20 for mine for his daughter.
Needless to say, I did not sell and I am awaiting the opportunity to go launch Jonathan Seagull once again. LOL
Thanks for the share, I love kite flying, and what happy memories it conjuers up.

my ex would always buy my kids kites thn "forget" about them. A couple of weeks ago, the kids found them. I stood mesmerized, watching kids run just to get the kites up.Then my son would lay down and watch it stay in the air on its own. Your story took me back to tht day. I could see it all again. You have a great talent for writing. Thanks for sharing tht w us. Midget
What a beautiful place to fly a kite. Thanks for the wonderful story. You should write them down. Now whenever I tell someone to "Go fly a kite" I can mean it in the most positive way. Much love and blessings to you and your family.
