Ugggguh!! After staying up late last night we were looking forward to sleep, new neighbors just moved in yesturday and evidently have a big dog, that likes to bark, all the time. Woke us up last night.
Had a very nice breakfast with our / woops my adult daugher, did a few little things around the house and laid down for a nap. The damn thing kept waking me up. The dog not the daughter!... Woof, Woof, Woof!
So I'm ready to feed it drano... but I'm gonna go in the kitchen bake some brownies and go over and welcome new neighbors (something I would generally do anyway) and hope the subject comes up.
I this doesn't work don't know what I will do ... I LOVE TO SLEEP!!!
Perhaps give the dog a chance to settle in his new surroundings. I know it's tough. Unfortunately my dog, who is not normally a barker, became a major barker after some new neighbors moved in next to me. I think he was just disturbed by the change. My new neighbor was very cool about it and I apologized profusely. What did wonders for my dog? When the neighbor warmed up to him with a dog cookie or two. Once they became friends, my dog quit barking. (I'd check with the owner first, of course.) Anyway - newness is sometimes hard for dogs. Hopefully that's the case with your new furry neighbor. Good luck!
I have a neighbor right beside me who has a German Shepherd outside who normally doesn't bark unless he sees the mail lady or someone walking down the street.
Unfortunately when her newest BF moved in, he also brought a yellow lab mix, in a separate run out back and that dog barks barks barks and barks.
This is the same neighbor whose metal shed blows up against my fencing every time we get high winds and it takes her 2-3 weeks to get it OFF of my fence. Sigh.
Sorry, I have no good suggestions.

Yeah, I have to agreed with round3, animals need time to settle too, although my son rescued a dog who had a major barking problem, which caused them and everyone else a huge problem. However, classes sorted that out with time and patience.
I would try to go with it for now and buy ear plugs and make friends with the dog and it's owners rather than getting upset; even though I know this can be very gruelling at times.
O, never had brownies, let alone made them, I can almost smell them from here! I take it they are cookies of some sort? Suzannah

I had the same thing happen. The couple two doors away moved into their house just before CHristmas. They had been doing extensive renovation, as it is an old, historic house. I was pleased to see them finally come...until...They have two large dogs who bark continuously. Day and night. People who allow their dogs to do this have no respect for anyone, so speaking to them about your problem will not help. I tried that and was told that if I didn't like it I could always call a real estate agent and put my place on the market!!!!!!! Law enforcement is of no help, even though we have noise nuisance laws...The neighborhood association is of no help either. These two dogs here are neglected, and they are barking out of sheer loneliness and boredom. That doesn't make it any better. Believe me, I have thought about sailing the poisoned meat over their fence.
It is a problem brought on by ignorant no-class people who don't want to be good neighbors. And that's too bad.

I see your problem as a metaphor for some of the stuff we also go thru around here and for me it's about people "not caring" about people. I'm old enough with enough hindsight and experience that there are a few things that work for me and I work them. Still there are the "strangers" that jump the fence and watch in wonder how/why I react...like those that drive pass my no tresspassing sign and up my driveway to turn around because they don't want the same maneuver out by the street. There are lots of things that I judge as totally unacceptable and there are lots of things coming in spite of it.
When I get the opportunity I get in peoples faces if they are on my property and out of line like using my property for their convenience. When I don't have the opportunity and I am off my property...I do more letting go and letting God. I will do that also on my property too and I know what enabling is and isn't. Give them a yard and they'll take the opportunity to turn around in it.
I had this problem only it was all day long! The people evidently left their dog outside all day while they worked. It wasn't a barker, it was a high pitched yapper! From about 7 a.m. until around 5:00 p.m..
My rear deck is my place of solace with a creek and trees beyond it. I couldn't stand to be out there! Yap yap yap yap yap...I could still hear it inside my house.
I finally called the Humane Society (from my back deck..hehehe) I told them it had gone on for 2 wks before I called and I could see there wasn't going to be a end to it anytime soon. The dog yapped loudly the whole time I spoke to the Humane officer. She asked me if the dog in question was what she could hear barking. Then said she could see why it would drive me nuts..lol She told me there was an ordinance and they'd take care of it.
They came out and observed the situation. They must have left a warning or spoke to them because it stopped the next day.

i agree with round 3..give the dog a chance to get settled in..a new place is hard for dogs..i have 4 of my own{great dane, peekapoo.chihuahua, and a shih-tzu}also when i moved in here in nov my neighbors have a small dog{they r deaf but have 2 kids that can hear}their little dogs barks alot, because they forget to let it in sometimes, but i guess because i have dogs it doesnt bother us....but with my great dane she has a loud bark but none of my neighbors have complained, and i ask them all the time and they say they dont hear them,i think this is not true cause when we get home i think you can hear them a mile away cause they r sooooo excited that we r home..but i have good neighbors, and here in florida mostly everyone here is dog lovers......so just talk to your new neighbors and see if the dog settles down in a week,
ohhh peanut butter, good one and alot less illegal or wrong than what I was thinking of. And as an update, they leave the little devil outside all day and he barks ALL DAY!! I work from home alot and this is wearing me out! Peanut butter wins!!!! Just gotta get the nerve up to throw it over the fence. Hope it doesn't make him sick!!
