For those who waited for chocolates & flowers.......

I remember recieving lovely Valentines cards from my ex A, and even  flowers, or a romantic dinner.....pre his drinking. Oh how special I felt and loved, needed, wanted. Those days are gone, and now I can do those things for myself, if I choose to. That is what alanon teaches us, to make ourselves feel happy again with or without the A's in our lives. So for those who "waited" and nothing came, today is a new day, and you can do whatever your heart desires, do not let one day ruin the rest of your week, or decide how your days ahead will be. Let it go and take back the control of yourself and your emotions. Because you are special!   aww

(((((((GG))))),

Great reminder as always.  My favorite Valentines were never from the A (although I do enjoy them), but the ones when I was a kid.  My sister and I would come home from school and there on our desks were a heart shaped box of chocolates from Mom & Dad from  a place that did homemade candy. I can still see my room and the box sitting on a paper doiley.  I think we place a way too huge an emphasis on certain days.  Why does your wedding have to be the most important day of your life?  Why can't every day be that special?  Why do we need a certain day to make the people we love feel loved?  Why aren't we doing that dailey?  Why is it easier to love someone else?  Why don't we practice loving ourselves first? The list can go on and on.   idea Something to think about.

I'm with you Carolina, any excuse that puts chocolate or those neco hearts at half price is a cause for celebration! w00t.gif   Love and blessings to you and your family.

Live strong,
Karilynn & Pipers Kitty smile

gardengal,

Ditto on use to get the flowers and candy and a nice dinner with my
AHsober. So a dear female friend has a birthday on Feb 14. She has had a tough two years with health issues and work. We are going to brunch tomorrow to celebrate her birthday. Life goes on with other people. Oprah had a show on about Valentine's Day can mean celebrating love with gramma, sisters, and any one that we love, not just romantic love. Sure made me think.

In support,
Nancy

I took upon myself to change the name of it to .....Love day. Which means we can give love to who ever we choose, instead of waiting for someone giving it to us. Giving love to myself means not waiting for someone to buy me flowers. I will buy them myself....done that before, and I am a guy! Let me know what you think.....Dale

How very refreshing, Dale. I love getting the guy's perspective on this. And I especially love the fact that you've bought flowers for yourself. VERY refreshing to hear. It is a love day - and I never looked for a flower or a chocolate or a card from anyone (good thing I wasn't looking!) - but I did buy chocolate and a card for my son - and I picked flowers for myself. My day was complete because I had no expectations.....well.....let's say I had CLEAR expectations.

Thanks for your post.
