Somedays, it feels like it. I can always depend on Ramen. I always have it on hand. It always makes me feel better, makes me slow down and take care of myself.
I can be so down, and I fix a bowl of Ramen noodles, and my mood lifts. I love the way it smells, the way it feels in my mouth. I am losing weight, which I needed to do, by eating it almost every day for supper. I may be a Ramen noodle addict, I can't wait to get home to eat it. My friend at work, who is also addicted to it, and I sing "It's Ramen Noodle Time...it's Ramen Noodle time.." when the work day is almost over. It is filling, super cheap, super quick, tasty, comforting and hot. Just a silly post today, I felt like being silly, I have been sad for so long.... How do you all fix your Ramen Noodles?
I drain the liquid off mine, and just mix in the spice packet, and add a tiny drizzle of sesame chili oil for a hot spicy taste. YUMMMMMMYYY! I usually buy it by the case, at 12 pkgs. for a buck 50. That's only about 13 cents per! My SIL eats his minus the spice packet, but adds milk and sugar, eats it like cereal! LOL My friend's son's gf was in jail, and they just heated it up, dry, and sprinkle with the spice packet, and crunch away. That kinda makes me thirsty to think about eating it that way......
Hmmmm. I wonder how Keith Urban eats HIS Ramen Noodles?

My ex used to fix it the regular way and then drain off most of the liquid and add cream cheese. The kids LOVED it and he called it Noodle Spagoodles. I later forund out that his family called it "Crackhead Soup". Not so funny as ex was a crackhead. I fell in love with it when I had my first place when I was 17. The best thing about it is the price. Great thing to feel full on 59 cents!!!
Becky...great share. I ain't addicted. I can tell cause I eat them sloooowly. I like to dress up my Ramen!! I don't like the noodles too soft so I boil them firm then add in scrambled eggs, some kind or any kind of left-over meat, chopped green onions or regular onions and always...always with chop sticks. I will try the hot spicey sesame oil sometime that sounds great. The soup base and liquid?....gotta do it all the way. Add a little soy sauce if I like too.
Well, I am addicted. Gotta have at least 1 bowl a day. I like the noodles a little firm, too. But, I don't eat them slowly.....I slurp them up in minutes.
I liked the idea of renaming them (but Crackhead Soup is too sad), so I'm going to start calling it HP Soup. And, if you eat it slowly, you can call it One Noodle at a Time Soup. hehe
Are they like Egg Noodles, we can buy them dried and simply soak them in boiling water for a couple of minutes, drain and then add as a side dish? They are a savoury dish rather than a sweet dish. They cost as little as 8p here in England. HB

Heartbroken: Type in "Ramen Noodles" and it will tell you. They are a supposedly very old type of oriental noodles. Very cheap here in the US, a package, which is a dry block of noodles, meant to serve 2 (but I always eat the whole thing, and so does everyone else) , along with a little spice packet, is only about 12 or 13 cents. You boil the noodles with a certain amount of water, then add the spices to make a soup. Or you can drain the liquid and add the spices. There are lots of ways to fix them. Maybe get on the internet and it will tell you where you can buy them where you live. They are most excellent, kind of a cult food. Single people, college students, jailhouse tenents, etc. love them. Hope you get a chance to try them. If you can't find them, let me know and I will figure out how to send you a few packages!
What a great post! What is funny is that I just had some this past weekend; the first time since college. My kids discovered them at a neighbor's house and I bought a couple of packages.
Oh, and silly me, I follow the instructions, exactly. I'm going to have to be "wild" sometime and try some of your suggestions. And, yes, they were gooooood....

I love this post! Ramen noodles have always been there for me too! I hadn't bought them in a while. It has been especially cold here in the midwest and I was feeling a little implulsive and bought a bulk package! Look out!
When I was younger (elementary school) I was a latch key kid for a while. My older sister and I would come home at lunch time, (b/c we had to share our school for a while so we were in split shifts), and we would always have Ramens. Over time, I got it down to a science for myself (I know how much water to add without even measuring!). I have never added anything except the scrumptious spice packet. My favorite is the chicken although for many years I loved the beef. Used to like the noodles mushy and without broth but now like em soupy and noodles not too mushy.
When I moved out of my parent's house, I had to take my Ramen bowls. I have always eaten them in the same bowl......amazing how ritualistic a bowl of 13 cent soup can be!!!!!
When I was at college I survived on Ramen noodles! I usually ate them as the instructions stated! When I was lucky and had them, I would chop up some green onions to add and when I was REAL lucky cut up a hot dog to put in there too!!
........sheese....... you have flung a craving on me now!!!!!
Well now I have to try Ramen noodles. My son (who is in college) swears by them, but I always dismissed them as cheap, yucky college food. You have opened my eyes! I'm going to get some and try some of the recipe suggestions you've all listed. Sounds kinda yummy now. And I especially like the fact that they're so CHEAP!!!!! ~R3
They are not an egg noodle though - no egg in them. If you can't find them in a normal store in the UK, they will be sure to be in specialty shops for Asian food, though not the cheap cheap ones with western spices probably.
I always make mine into real soup - cook up some carrots, broccoli, pea pods, whatever, and a little meat, and then add the noodles and spice pack near the end. (My kids always joke (I hope they are joking) Mom, you are the only person in the entire world who serves vegetables and fruit with EVERY meal!) For years, my daughter just took a dry pack to school and ate them out of the package - crunch crunch.
And, I hate to do this, but alanon is all about facing reality, right? They are really not very good for you, very high in sodium and fat, and without any of the things that food is supposed to give you, like fiber and actual nutrients. This doesn't stop me from eating them, but is something a person needs to know.
I usually step on the bag first to crush all the noodles (make an air hole first or the bag will explode) so I can eat it with a spoon like spaghettios soup instead of a fork!
How bizarre is this...I love them too! I also drain off most of the liquid (sodium), then add a teaspoon of peanut butter and some curry. If I have some frozen spinach or peas, toss them in while the noodles cook. Turns them into an Indian Delight!
I like eating some uncooked. But usually I like adding leftovers and extra veggies. Hubby likes draining off the liquid and adds butter to the noodles. I try not to buy them too often because they are high in sodium, but every once in awhile - Yum! Or when money gets tight. They can be a cheap way to stretch a budget. Great post. I too eat them with chopsticks. Bon Appetit!
