Strength and Weakness...

Some days ago someone in the family recommended this Thought for the day website and I went to visit it.  Since then I have read some great thoughts, however I was particularly struck by this one and it has made me reassess my own Strength and Weakness.

Take what you like from it or simply discard it, however I thought it was worth sharing for I see this in my life, maybe you will see it in yours too, and acknowledge that you too have strength that you do not always own and recognise though you often doubt:

It is the weak who are cruel. Gentleness can only be expected from the strong.

--Leo Rosten

When we think of strength, do we think of someone who shows no emotion and intimidates others with physical power? True strength is the freedom to show all kinds of feelings. Strong people aren't afraid of being vulnerable. A person who feels insecure may not feel free to show any kind of softness or be able to share gentle feelings. If we have true inner strength, we are not afraid to show what is a part of us, gentle feelings included.

It is wonderful to see a well-conditioned athlete cry tears of joy after a victory. In such an example we can see physical and emotional strength. In our lives together, we will be stronger if we do not try to hide our feelings out of fear. As our feelings flow, we will increase our self-understanding and build our true strength.

Am I strong enough to show how I really feel today?

Yes I am strong enough to day to show how I really feel today.  I am so grateful for all my family in alanon, that I will show you how strong I am by saying, I acknowledge that I do have strength, real inner strength that often I do not own, do not recognise and often doubt.

Yes HB, I hear ya!  Strength and weakness can be different things and I too can use those negative self tapes to look at my weaknesses that when brought into balance could also be my strengths.  Or look at my weaknesses  when I should look at my strengths instead.  It's almost a riddle as there are really very few weaknesses left by the time  you look at everything the way HB looks at each of us.  Focus on strengths sounds like the way to go.
thanks for sharing!

Very thought provoking HB. I think maybe I tend to be afraid to show my true feelings.

I needed to hear this today. Thank you so much for posting it.

Love and Blessings,

Claudia
