Something good is happening

Not with my A, but with my A father.  I wrote earlier about how he got drunk on Christmas Eve and missed Christmas morning with the kids.  This was something he was looking forward to for a long time.  I never said anything to him about it.  I knew he regretted it.

I've noticed since then he hasn't gotten drunk.  He's had a few beers here and there, but he's really been limiting what he's drinking.  I asked him about it yesterday and he simply said he just doesn't want to do it anymore.  He thanked me for noticing.

This might not seem like much, but my dad has made all kinds of promises.  He always said one day he'd slow down, but I learned not to believe him.  This time he just started limiting himself without making promises, or saying anything to anyone.

I realize this may not be permanent, and no, he isn't in AA or anything like that, and no, I don't think he'll ever quit for good.  But, he's making an effort because he chose to do it.  To me, it means everything.

Well, Texas, celebrate the successes big and small! It's a start.
