Help please with a medical issue!

(((((Family))),

A very early good morning to you all.  I need your assistance please if you can.  Back in August hubby lost his very good pyschiatrist for a better job.  She spent so much time getting him stable with benzodiapzapines (sp?).  She really worked wonders with him.  After she left they found another doctor that was benzo friendly.  Mind you not everyone can take benzos without getting addicted.  He's one of only 2 in that facility that can.  Well this doctor had "issues" and kind of imploded on herself.  She lasted only a couple of months.  Now they have found a temporary doctor who is not benzo friendly.  He will be here only a few months and has changed all of the patients meds.  After 1 meeting with hubby he told him he wants him off the benzos.   While hubby is open to new ideas, it seems strange that this guy is only going to be here a few months and wants to change things.

Here's where I need your help.  I am trying to research this guy on line.  I want to know about his background, etc.  I have looked at the AMA webpage and found nothing.  I was able to find out his medical liscense number and that's about it.  Before we make a decision about going through with this, I want to know more about him.  The secretaries in the office can't tell me anything.  Nor would I ask them to put their jobs on the line.

So my question is: Where can I find out more information about this doctor?  Are there any websites you can suggest?  Are there other agencies I can call?  If you want to PM that would be fine.

I'm getting an uncomfortable feeling about this guy.  Even the pharmacist I talked to when we were getting his meds for his vacation, didn't like the way he was being treated.   I have found his old doctor and will probably make a phone call to her with some very "generalized" questions.   If it was just hubby and I that was feeling uncomfortable I would say "okay that's just us being apprehensive".  But I keep getting negative impressions from other people.

Thanks for your help.  Enjoy the weekend.  Much love and blessings to you and your families.

Live strong,
Karilynn & Pipers Kitty smile

Hi Karilynn,

Try getting onto the website specific for your state (State Medical Association). You will get way more info at that level since it is more for consumer advocacy than the federal level which is more of a governing board. You should be able to directly see if he has any complaints or violations. If that doesn't work, try calling the medical association directly.

I am sorry you are going through this. Obviously from your post, you have learned to trust your own intuitions and feelings. Good for you!

Please keep us updated.

Blessings,
Lou

Maybe you should go with your gut.  If the medication is working for him.  I have been around the bush with doctors about my kidney disease.  I set a lot of limits these days but I don't have good insurance either.

certainly you could ask him for some references; clients with whom he has worked with in the past?

Yeah, I would ask for a consult before any meds are changed. If the doctor becomes resistent, ask if there's a reason why the dr won't allow for an alternative opinion
I would also ask that the dr explain why if your husband has had such success (I'm assuming?) with benzos why suddenly he has to end treatment with them? Mental illness is no joke and abrupt resceduling of meds is no laughing matter.
Lastly I would ask why it is that now was a time to change meds? Was there an expectation to have more children? Something said in a session? Concerning?

RE: Help please with a medical issue.

To answer a few of your questions:

One of the reasons he has had such great success with the benzo is because his brain just adapts well to it.  No Tiger there are no plans for children.  Pipers Kitty is more than I can handle! wink

We can't ask for references because the patients they treat are addicts and this is through his outpatient mental health.

The reason for the change is because this temporary doctor is not benzo friendly.  He also changed another patient's meds.  I am getting the feeling in the office (although no one can directly state) that they don't like the fact that this guy is just changing meds and he's only going to be there for a couple of months.  Hubby was strong enough to tell him lets wait until he gets back from vacation.

There are doctors out there who are just not benzo friendly, mainly because they can be highly addictive.  Such is not the case with hubby.  He has never filled a perscription early nor requested an increase in it.

I've been wracking my brain trying to find out info on this guy.  I'm open to any other suggestions.  Are there websites I am not familiar with? I've contacted my local Mental Health Association.  But you have to be careful because this is a small town and they are all connected in one way or another. But I should be able to find out more.  I'm getting frustrated.gif with this.  But I am determined to find out more about this guy.

Keep the suggestions coming please.  I don't care how absurb they sound!  Crazy is good! Thanks family.

Did you just google his name?  I am sure you have already tried that, but if not, you may find out a lot by just doing so.  Or at least be directed to other sites that might have the scoop on this guy.  Wish I could be of more help.

Good luck.

Best to you, Hubby, and "Pipers Claws" in 2008.

With great affection,
Diva
