I guess I am being paid back......

My boss told everyone they were to be at work on Saturday. He gave me 3 days notice and it was 2 days before Christmas. I was not able to get a sitter with 3 days notice on the weekend before Christmas. I sent my boss a response telling him I was not able to work on Saturday. I received my paycheck today which was $500 short. I was out sick with the flu for 2 days, so I can understand the loss for two days, but this is more than that. I realized I was not paid for Christmas and closing early on Christmas eve. I have contacted my boss, but have not heard back from him. This disease can take you prisoner if you don't abide by it's rules. Now, I will not have enough money to pay my rent. I am praying that HP leads me out of this situation and out from under the grips of this disease.

For what, you don't seem to be a person that deserves a bad hand to be dealt to them? Live can be real hard at times and cruel.

Hope you are soon feeling better. Flu can really bring you down. Sorry to hear about the rent. I too will be hoping that that will be paid for you. I would pay it for you if I could believe me.

Keep your chin up, something always turns up if you lean on your HP.

(((Kissers)))
Been thinking some more about your rent situation.

In my experience it is always best to offer to pay something of the rent, that way one is not in total default.

Perhaps you could negotiate with your landlord/lady and offer a partial payment of rent this time and ask if you could negotiate further on how to pay the rest of it over say the next three months.

This is what would be acceptable in law rather than just NOT paying your rent at all. [CAB advice - Citizens Advice Bureau - England]. Is there a similar legal advice body who could negotiate for you in the US maybe?

Just a thought. Take it of leave it.

I know this feeling of not being able to make rent. Perhaps your landlord can be convinced to give you a little more time. If you let them know early and make an attempt to discuss it before the deadline, they may work with you. Do you have anything of value that you could sell or pawn? I pawned my camera once to make rent. Had to do it even though I loved that camera sooo much. Look at your expenses and see what can be eliminated. I am down to peanut butter sandwiches, eggs, tea and ramen.

This is so funny because in around a week or two I will be heading into an incredible house sit and living in a palace! Eating peanutbutter sandwiches!!! This is really too funny!!! Maybe they will leave some stuff behind in their refridgerator...

Good luck, it will work out OK. J.

It was confirmed. I am not being paid for Christmas day since I was not able to work that Saturday.

I don't get it but then I'm not supposed to.  Just got a little caught up with it because Christmas wasn't on Saturday or are we....??  Best slogan for me here is "don't react."

Was just wondering if your Boss was showing some resentments?

Letting go with ((((hugs)))) confused

Hi Kissers,

I'm just wondering.... we own a small business and in our policy manual it is stated that a holiday is paid only if the employee works their scheduled day before and after the holiday. From what you wrote you were not originally scheduled to work that Sat?

Without making a big deal about it, perhaps you can check the legitimacy of what happened according to the policy manual. He could be showing resentments or he could be following policy and not wanting to set a precident or show preferential treatment.

It is much easier to deal with if you can understand why.

I pray your rent situation works out. That stinks.

Lou

Hi Lou,

I was given 3 days notice to work on Saturday. I never work on Saturdays. I pay for childcare for the weekdays only. Daycare is only open during the week. I was also not able to go to the work Christmas party either because it was at night, so I didn't get my Christmas bonus either.

I will be getting a smaller paycheck in January (I get paid 2 weeks behind).  I know what you are talking about. I think its pretty legitimate to be able to have the excuse you could not get childcare.  Bosses are not supposed to disciminate on that.  If your boss did you may have a case with the EEOC. There may be agencies you can contact to get help with the rent, the Salvation Army is one of them.  You may have a local charity that will help you out.  The best thing is to be upfront with your landlord and let them know and try to work out when you will be able to pay.

One reason I share a house (even though I hate it) is to have a low rent in case I run into hard times. I have saved a teeny tiny amount for emergencies and my small paycheck next month will be one of them. I fully intend to try to keep saving and put as much money as I can away at times.  I am aiming for 6 months expenses in time.

I feel for you and hope you are not beating yourself up.  Bad things happen sometimes they are no reflection on you.

Maresie.
