MY FIRST TIME, WHERE TO START?

Hi,
This is my first time at any meeting/discussion. So, Here is a little history-
My husband and I met 12 years ago, we lived together a few years before getting married. Just before we got married, he started drinking more than he had before, and said he was " building up so he could drink at the reception".
I didnt think to much about it. In 2001 we had our first son, my husband lost his job, and had a very hard time finding a new one, so as things got worse so did his drinking. It has been 6 years now, and he went to his first aa meeting last night. He has not quit drinking yet, but he at least made the first step.
I am so emotional about it all, I dont know where to start. I feel as though we are walking on glass with each other right now. I dont know what to say to him!?! So, where do I start?
Amy

welcome to the MIP board, you are in a place where all will understand what you are going through right now. Its good that he realises that he has a problem, but the focus needs to be on you also, keep posting, people are here for you

You have already started by coming here and asking for help - well done, and welcomeaww

In Alanon we learn that alcoholism is a family disease, and as such our own behaviours and attitudes have become distorted and unhealthy.  Here we can practice healthier behaviours, "keeping our side of the street clean" as we say.

I encourage you to seek out f2f (face to face) meetings near you also - there you can get a free newcomer packet with several good pamphlets explaining about this family disease.  There are links to various states' (and countries') sites, with lists of meetings, at www.al-anon.alateen.org/meetings/meeting.htm

Thanks, I should be excited and happy he is getting help, and I am, but at the same time wondering how it is going to affect "US " in the long run. I "married him" as an a and now I am scared.

Well where I started was with myself. I came here daily I spent a lot of time here. I read the archives. I went to the meetings here. I started with me.

My A did not get sober but I did.

I am so much better now.

I used to focus all my energy on what he did, now I focus it on what I do.

Maresie.
