For the past 7 years I have known that I no longer want to live here. I have been researching moving across the country to Austin, TX. I will not know anyone there. I will not have a job there. I am terrified. But, where I live now has not been good to me or for me. So, it is time to take the plunge.
Today I made my reservations to fly to Austin next month so that I can see it to decide if this is really where I will want to live. I have never flown by myself. I have never rented a car before. I am terrified.
I have called a realtor and scheduled time for her to show me houses to buy in Austin. I have never bought a house by myself. I have never moved across country by myself. I am terrified.
Tomorrow I will call the temporary agencies to make an appointment to speak with someone about helping me to find a job.
I will pretend I am the little choo choo train and I will tell myself that "I think I can" until I make it up this hill.
Thank you, everyone. Your stories give me the courage to try. Please say a few dozen prayers for me.
Well done Ditto , an adventure . Yes u can especially when u rememer that once settled in Al-Anon your never alone again . Look up some meetings while your there and start making new friends , u never know who your going to meet in those rooms . One step at a time u will be just fine . take care of you and I wish u luck . Louise
WOW! And that's a good wow! How cool is that? You are making a decision and then following it thru. That is the coolest! I used to do things like that before. Before the disease consumed me. Congradulations on living your life to the fullest! Austin is a great city. I lived in Houston for a year and we went to Austin alot. Much luck and love!
I have spent quite a bit of time in TX. I did not care for Austin much but that is just me. It is a smaller town with a college atmosphere. It is not a bustling city and has only 1 freeway which made me nuts! Have fun and enjoy yourself! Make sure you have some catfish! It is awesome there!
Don't know what type of work you do - but you can always search the "USAjobs" - to see if there are any Federal jobs available or try the Texas State Employment Web Site. Not only is that something you can apply for ahead of time, but sometimes that can open doors to other areas.
Again - Best wishes in whatever you decide is best for you!!
Rita

Have you ever noticed when ya say the words, terrified, fear, afraid etc. It makes ya feel like that?
I invite you to stop the saying those words and put in hopeful. Try it, you will see.
Apparently you are being brave and courageous, taking control of your life. I have thought about what you are doing a dozen times. I am envious!!
This is an adventure, and you will make it what it turns out to be. Getting a new house, finding a job you will enjoy, how fun.
It will take time but soon it will all be familiar and home to you! This is a major growing experience. I hope you will join in with others to do what you love. That is the best way to meet people. Maybe take some or even one class at a community college, Al Anon is waiting there for you too!
Well I am going to be bossy and say PLEASE keep us updated and do not get lost in cute cowboyland!!! love, debilyn who wonders if you will get a horse????
I am sooo excited for you! Wow what a decision to make. I love to go on trips alone. It's exciting and liberating and very relaxing. I hope you have a wonderful time and find everything you are looking for. Enjoy the journey. I am sure there are lots of texas folks here more than willing to help you. Congrats! Now that's the prime example of Courage to Change.
Love and blessings to you and your family.
Live strong, Karilynn & Pipers Kitty

It's your life. Take no prisoners. You will have it your way.
My life has been very consumed with my AH for many years. He's always been around, we met right out of high school. The only time that I would truely find myself is on buisiness trips alone to different cities. Oh don't think it was easy at first, I've never been alone. No I'm not a partier. I'm a home body that every once in a blue moon had to go out of state for work. But I learned to like it...for the weird things....to stop and look at whatever caught my interest, to eat what I wanted to, to make friends at the pool, to do what i fancied. It feels really weird and scary at first...but good at the same time.
So many times Iv'e thought and dreamed about relocating through my work...Wow, I'm envious...You go girl....
Ditto, I did it. No money for buying a house, but otherwise, yeah I picked up and moved, over 1500 miles. No job waiting for me or anything like that. Where I was had not been good for me. People ask why, why I chose where I did, etc. etc. I know folks are curious, but I really don't feel like explaining. So I don't. It felt right -- and that is a new way to approach life for me. I will tell you that I didn't even do as much research as you are doing. And that is unusual for me -- but, then, my best thinking helped me hit bottom ... I mean I love ya all, but I didn't walk into the rooms of al anon cause everything in my life was great. It sounds like your gut is telling you to move. Mine did, I did it, you can, too. One of the best things I ever did. I'm healing. The al anon meetings are among the best. Take care of you. Yours in recovery, emma
