OK...here goes.....Those of you who know me, know I have one child, a grown daughter...and I have a step-son who has a little girl, my granddaughter, who is 3, and lives 6 hours away, so don't get to see her much. I also, from another marriage, have 2 beautiful step grandkids ( a girl and a boy), in their early teens, but due to my husband's insecurity, and to keep peace in the household, I don't get to see...they live about 3 hours away. Have not seen them in years, but still communicate and send birthday and holiday greetings. Makes me sad to not see them, but they are in a good place, being adopted by their paternal grandparents. I have known them since they were born, and I was even the 2nd person to hold that granddaughter after she was born! A few weeks ago, my daughter called me and told me she thought she was pregnant, (she is 31, and married for 3 years to a great guy who has 2 sons.) I asked what made her think she was and she said "Well, I'm 6 weeks late, and took 3 pregnancy tests, which were positive." OMG! She was a little scared because she was spotting a little, so waited until they were sure they were OK before they let the news out. OMG! I know the joy I have felt after holding my step-grandkids for the first time....my heart just about exploded. I cannot imagine it being any better than that, and I don't know if it will or not, but it feels really weird to think that MY baby is having a baby. Her own father is not in the picture, since I divorced him when she was a year old, and he has not seen her or had any contact since, which is a good thing! I never thought she and her husband would have kids, cos they have the 2 boys to raise.....but she messed up on her pills..... lucky me! So....here we go...ready or not.....at first they weren't sure they were happy about it because they wanted to wait to have kids when they had more money, a bigger house, better jobs....(you know how it goes.) My SIL is great, he has already said they have no problem with me and his mom being in the delivery room! Talked to them yesterday at their house, they are getting excited and happy now. I have already bought material to make baby gowns! I can't wait until they find out what it is.....We are all praying for a girl because they already have the 2 boys. What makes me really sad, tho, is my daughter and my husband do not talk. She has seen me go thru so much heartache due to his drinking over the years. I was with him in 1986-1988, then we split up until 1997, and we got married in 2000. They used to get along until January 2005, when there was a terrible incident between he and I, and he was arrested. They have not spoken in a year and a half, since he called her up just after Christmas 2005, drunk and raising Cain and wouldn't let her talk to me...so she called 911 and he was arrested for breaking his probation from problems we had earlier that year. He blames her and her husband for telling the police where he was hiding out, but it was ME! I have tried to tell him that, but he doesn't believe me, for whatever reason. Who knows what the alcoholic brain thinks when it is soaked in alcohol. I still talk and see my daughter, but she does not come to my home, and I only live 10 minutes away. The last time she was even in my home was in Dec. 2005. She chooses to not be around my husband, because she views him as toxic. I respect her views, but it is hard. We used to be a family, she sang in out wedding, and he walked her down the aisle along with me at hers. Alcohol can tear families apart in a heartbeat. Makes me so very very sad. Am trying to not project, but hopefully things can heal a little around here. I have told my husband we are going to be grandparents again, and have spoken of it a little bit to him, but he doesn't say much. But, that is a good thing, he is quiet anyway, unless he goes off on a rage about something. So far, he hasn't said anything derogatory about her or her husband for a few months. The past 2 years have been very hard, but things are getting a lot better, most of the time. In fact, except for the occasional flare-up caused by his drinking, during which he says crazy stuff and acts like a jerk, things are 90% better between us than it was, and I credit Alanon and MIP for that success. I could not wait to share this with all of you. I am happy beyond belief, but I had just convinced myself that I would never have a grandbaby from her......still trying to get over the shock. I will keep you all posted! Love in Recovery, Becky1
Grandbabies are the best eh? Just spent 12 days getting to know my 9 months old baby Grandson...and thought my heart would just about burst> Now looking forward to his next visit in September along with my son and his wife....and my daughter is coming along too. All my lovely family together here in my house...........OOOOOHHHHHHHHH I am SO exited.
(((Becky)))) Congrats on being a Gramma. How special that is. I grew up without any grammas and always wished i had one. I know how important my mom was in the lives of my kids. It's a special relationship. What a blessing for you. your friend in recovery, rosie
