Hi all.... In a bit of a reflective mood today, and once again reminded that life doesn't always go according to MY plan, but that there are miracles still happening around us, even if they are not how we envisioned them. Last night, I dropped my kids off at their Mom's 5-year cake celebration, which is quite an accomplishment.... Many years ago, my idea of "success" through all this alcoholism thing would have been that she would get sober, and our marriage would not only survive, but flourish.... Well, our marriage didn't survive, but I guess a change in perspective has allowed me to see the positives of the event in it's own right.... Today, my kids have a sober mother, who has worked hard to rebuild their relationship, and is a capable mother. They also have a loving father, who is much more "sane" than he was during the chaotic years of the drinking....
Just another reminder that the world isn't always completely black or white. There are "successes" out there, even if they aren't the 'full meal deal' that we had once imagined or hoped they could or would be. I have no longing for my ex, nor does she for me (we are way past that, lol), but five years of sobriety has still brought some stability for my two awesome children, and for that I am grateful.
Yours in recovery, Tom

A big congrats to your ex for her 5th anniversary! A even bigger congrats to you for you recovery! WOOHOO! I think it's wonderful that the children have 2 sober parents. How lucky they are!
Miracles do happen in the smallest ways. Sometimes we don't think that they are miracles until later on. HP has a funny way of sneaking them in when we are not looking. Sometimes we just have to look up and see the and the moon.
Love and blessings to you and your family.

Congrats to your ex on her 5yrs. Congrats to you on your growth and recovery. You are so right...so many times the miracles are right in front of us...all we have to do is "see" them. your friend in recovery, rosie
What an inspiring post that I can relate to today. Congrats to you and your ex for putting your two, beautiful children first. I work with the teens and it can be heart breaking to see that two adults are so selfish and into their own demise that they don't realize what they are doing to our precious children.
My estranged and I were just having that conversation last week (in the midst of all the public figures destroying their kid's self esteem) and we were both congratulating each other for the wonderful job we have done with our three boys and how all of our sacrifices, physically, financially and emotionally, have paid off big.
I love the saying "If you don't think your Higher Power doesn't have a sense of humor, tell Him your plan." lol.
Thanks for posting and congrats to your ex for her 5 year coin and congrats to you for putting your children first.
yours in recovery, Maria

I send congratulations to your former wife on her five years of sobriety!! And here's to five more...and five more...
I have often said, it is not necessary for parents to be together to have a happy family. What makes the difference is the individual happiness of all involved. Sounds like all of you are doing fine.
YAY!!!
