Haven't been here in a while, my life has been busy busy... but just wanted to let you all know that this board is a lifesaver.
This time last year, I was a scared, horrified, panic-stricken person who wanted nothing but to dwell on my horrible life and the possibility that I would have to live my life without my A. We were separated at this time last year, and he was really struggling with a relapse that began January 1, 2006.
I like to look back on the pain because I have felt so much growth. I really, truly felt like dying. I did not want to live with the pain of this disease, and did not know any tools to help myself. I just want you all to know that this board, and face to face meetings, and reading daily, and trying to practice these principals, really truly made me change into a stronger, happier person.
My A is now sober for six months, and was sentenced yesterday to six months in jail for his third DUI. I am not worried about his consequences any longer. When he went to sentencing yesterday, I went to work. I did write a letter in support of him, but I surprised myself by not being full of anxiety and dread yesterday while waiting for the verdict. He is taking responsibility for his actions, and serving this sentence beginning Friday night. He does have work release, thank goodness, otherwise we would lose one car, and I doubt I could pay his half of the bills with mine.
There IS hope, if you keep reading this board, and keep practicing what you learn here. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to all who have shared their wisdom and hope and just plain love when I was suffering. I truly believe that my life has changed for the better. I know that I do not NEED someone by my side to live a happy life. I really really enjoy spending time alone now, I am unafraid to just hang out with myself! I actually like myself now!!! It is a far cry from the terrified, wimpering, anxious person that I was last year, truly.

Hi Heidi,
Thank you for sharing your Experience, Strength, and Hope here on the board.
It's my pleasure to meet you here; I'm new to this board but not to Al-Anon. I surely do agree with you that this board offers support; it already means a lot to me.
It helps me personally to know that other people are working on some of the same type of issues that I'm working on. Thank you for helping me today.
Thanks so much for sharing that with us. I'm so glad you and your A are working your programs and living a more healthier life. It does give me hope that my life will be peaceful and healthier too. Keep working it!!
Hugs, Twinmom~

I am so glad you are coping so well with all thats going on. There is so much growth in your post. I know you have been through a lot to get to where you are now.
WOOHOO! I am so proud of you! You have grown so strong. You have been an inspiration to people here. They see from you what working a program can do. So I thank you to you for being a role model. Congrats on A's sobriety too. Perhaps this will stick with him.
Love and blessings to you and your family.
Live strong, Karilynn & Pipers Kitty
