I went to an open AA meeting tonight. We listened to a speaker tape. After the speaker we spoke informally. We said that if only that shooter at the college had heard of a 12 step program or recovery or went to meetings maybe he could have dissipated some of his anger and frustration. We felt that the 12 steps and slogans give us structure and guidance on how to be appropriate. We felt that we got support from our 12 step groups when we weren't doing well and really needed it. If only he had a place to go. How sad.
I agree, yet, also want to ask what behaviors were taught/learned. I am willing to bet 3/4 of the farm that he grew up playing video games and watching television. I thank God that my parents severely limited those factors in my life.
