Okay here I am snowed in because of the noreaster and hubby and I got to talking. We are both very stubborn and tenacious people. I like to blame it on me being a Taurus! But it got me thinking about recovery.
When an A is ative they will go to any means to get their fix. They are relentless in their persuit of their drug of choice. They don't let anything stand in their way, they don't let anybody stand between them and their booze or drugs. The family and friends of addicts look upon this behavior as negative (and it is don't get me wrong). But what if we flip that? What if we take that tenacious stubborn behavior and apply it to our recovery?
We should stop making excuses for our recovery. Why we don't work our program. Why we don't get the help we need. If they are relentess in their persuit of their fix, then we should be relentless in our persuit of our recovery. Nothing should stand in the way of our recovery. Nobody should stand in our way of recovery.
If recovery is about taking your life back, then surely the stubborness that an addict demonstrates in his/her persuit of the fix, should be a quality that we take from them and apply to getting our life back. Maybe there's a lesson in there from the A. Take no prisoners in your recovery.
Love and blessings to you and your family.
Live strong, Karilynn & Pipers Kitty
P.S. I am now off my soapbox!

I agree wholeheartedly!! If my A hadn't been stubborn, he'd still be in a wheelchair. They told him he'd never walk again, and he sure is! Went right back to working on his boat! Now, he's being stubborn about not drinking any more! Thank HP for stubborness!
HI Kari, I agree with you 100%, We should put every ounce of energy in our recovery.Thers no reasons or excuses why we can't, I know sometimes its not easy to get to meetings and things, get babysitters etc but there is alot of help out there for us and its for our well being and that of our families and that should be a priority!!!I am finally working my program after 8 months in online alanon(no f2f here) and feel so much better already.I see big changes, good changes in my future for a change that will benefit kids and I.
