Yesterday my husband and I found out that he has cancer. We are both in shock right now, but dealing with things the best way we know how right now. I am seeking my HP for his guidence and that whatever treatment my husband decides to go with will be the right decision.
I am grateful that he has been sober for 3 weeks now off the drugs and alcohol and that we are in AA and Alanon programs to help us through this difficult time. It has not hit me yet but I am asking for prayers just to get me through another day. I to am praying and working the steps in order to Live for Today.
I'm sorry that you've been dealt this terrible blow, love. I can imagine the shock of your reality. If you're interested, the American Cancer Society publishes a first rate handbook for the families and loved ones of cancer people. In a full volume it covers everything you needed to know about cancer, from the diagnosis to, god forbid, the death. Talks in laymans terms about what you need to know about biopsies, CT scans, all that stuff. And, my favorite, The first chapter was all about feelings. And every paragraph started with the same phrase: THIS IS NORMAL! Love, please keep us posted.
((((alberta&Hubby)))) your in my prayers that this too shall pass without too much sadness and for a fast recovery (or remission) for your H. keep taking care of You too. please stay strong and try (though i know its hard) to keep positive thoughts. the power of positive thoughts do matter. ((HP)) is with you through this. turn it over to HP/Gods loving hands. i'm definitely sending you positive thoughts from my home to yours.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers it means a lot to me. We have gone through so much over the past year with his drinking and drugs and now we are dealing with this. It's hard but I am praying that as each day passes it will get easier.
How much does that suck, eh? I'm going through something of the same sort, we'll find out on Monday. Only bright spot on the horizon is that now you both have a support system that you didn't have, pre program. Best wishes to you both.
Hello Rose , this is a God deal leave it with him . 3 yrs into sobriety my husb too found out he had cancer that one was a breeze . 5 yrs after that he had cholen cancer a real tough live altering type of cancer that just about did me in . I was nuts but thanks to awsome members who had been thru this too they shared what happened to them . they reminded me to continue looking after me , meetings talking to people and reminded me that everything that could be done for my husb was being done by proffessionals. Be there for him support his decissions but don't stop going about your life . Ilearned what this program had been trying to tell me for 16 yrs at that time . What a disease does to ME. I become a watcher , i hover trying to anticipate his every need , ( beginning to sound a little familiar?) in other words I loose myself again in the name of a disease. sheeeeeeesh. My husb one more time beat the odds and is now 19 yrs sober , his attitude was awsome thru both cancers he just kept saying Alcoholism didn't kill me this won't either . said he worked too damn hard for the sobreity he had and was not gonna let this beat him . so I pretty much followed his lead as far as attitude went . when I had to cry I went to meetings or to my sponsor and cry I did . But in front of him I stayed calm and in control , he didn't need me falling apart he has his own stuff to deal with . Stay strong , close to your meetings where people love you and u can just be you. Will pray for your husb good luck Louise
Praying for a miracle for you and hubby. As you could see in this program miracles do happen! Praying for all the extra strength you'll need to get you and your loved ones through this, with love and lots of TLC
Many prayers are coming your way. There is not much one can say at this point, but I hope and pray all goes well. I know you are still in shock from this. I remember being numb. But once it wears off you will find a way to get through it. Hold tight to each other, and enjoy his sobriety.
Love and blessings to you and your family.
Live strong, Karilynn & Pipers Kitty
