Some of you may have heard me share at a meeting on Sunday that I had a dog that was very sick. He died today. We are pretty sure he had pancreatic cancer. He was sick less than a week. Most of that time he was at the vet on IV and pain meds. I'm glad he is not in pain and was not in pain when he died. I am glad he was not alone. And I am glad I did what I could for him to try to make him better or at least comfortable. Our dogs are our "kids'> Some people don't understand that, but it's true. We went to see him this morning and he had gone downhill so quickly. He was starting to get cold. HIs temp was 5 degrees below normal. when he heard our voices he tried to stand up and come to us, but he collapsed. He was just too weak. We're sure gonna miss him LIN AKA Linafg
So sorry to hear about your dog. It's almost scary how much you can grow to love a pet. I have one that my family says that only her mother (me) can love, but love her I do! I know that you're hurting right now. I send you warmest wishes for comfort & healing.
The meeting topic Sunday morning was GOD'S WILL. I prayed for SMokey. I asked God if it be HIS will, to not let him suffer. I told HIM...if you know suffering is ahead of him, please take him and help me accept it. I got blessed palms at church on Sunday. I wove them into a cross and glued it to the back of a picture of Smokey that hangs onthe wall by my computer. I asked him to be with Smokey. He listened. He let us have time for one last fgood --bye and then he slipped away.
It's amazing how often we use tools we learn in AlAnon for all areas of our lives. LIN
(((lin))) know there is a place , "animal heaven " where all our wonderful animals that leave us will meet each other. we are so fortunate to experience the love of such precious animals in life. i have been blessed to own many dogs, cats, horses and more in my life and lost some toooo. one not too long ago. old age. i loved my "charlie." i understand, its never easy ... but in time you will be able to find another wonderfully loving animal to give your love to. I am positive Smokey would want that for You too. Animals, wonderful wonderful animals. I know that your Smokey is there with my Charlie. Its easier realizing they're no longer in pain. JUST happy and fiesty.....playing in the fields of flowers and hills of green.... together.
I lost my Boston Terrier, "Baby" a couple of weeks ago, and I know the agonizing pain we suffer when a beloved pet leaves us. Like "Smokey," "Baby" did not suffer from her afflictions; I would never allow that, and I know she is in a good place now. She has probably befriended "Smokey" already; she was a friendly little soul.
So, allow yourself to grieve the passing of your dear friend, and one day your tears will turn to smiles when you remember him.
With sadness,
Diva

Thanks all for the replies. I appreciate you caring. It's been a tough week. Our dog are our "kids". It was so sudden...we hardly knew he was sick and then he was gone.
