I have done step one and two, but get a little shy of step 3. I was wondering if I could just work it over in my head, or if I need a sponsor in order to say "Hey, I'm on step 3"? I don't really know how to find a sponsor right now. thanks Jamie

Well it took me a year to get to through steps one and two and another year to work through step three. I did some work with a sponsor, but I have to say it's much harder to do it on your own. Because you are living with active alcoholism I feel like you must get a sponsor. Working the steps by yourself is great, and I'm glad that you have started, but I think having someone to call and get you back to "sane" is priceless. Take care.
A sponsor is helpful to keep you from being too hard or too easy on yourself, from falling into denial, from little dishonesties...... Do the best you can, keep an eye out for someone who has what you want. Go to different meetings, if your regular one doesn't have anyone who you feel good about. If you aren't going to F2f, please find a way to go - it really does make a big difference. You are much less likely to fall into little self indulgent traps when there are real live people looking you in the eye every week.
