Yep this is something I need to do,think it's called self awareness? a few weeks ago I had my first a wakening, and that was like wow, I woke up and smelt the coffee, then I had lot's of little a wakenings, like they came in the shape of,well,I could chose them really, but I only got to enjoy the benefits, when I was upbeat and posative. Now I just been trying to get over a set back, where by hubby stopped taking his meds without telling me, and I was in that whole sorry mess again, thing is, it felt much worse because I thought with Alanon I wouldn't get like this anymore. It's been a few weeks now, and hubby is fine again, but It's hanging on to me, and I'm finding it hard to let go and restart, I just pegged the washing out and the sun's shinning, it's cold crisp and bright, I haven't got the feeling inside that I had with my first awakening, and I have been putting the feeling down to unhappiness, but it's not that at all, and I only just realised, I think it's a combination of things, fear, excitement, dissaponitment, apprehension, anxiety, then the burning question? does it help to know what feeling it is, yep I think so, it sooooo does because, I'm going to take each one of these feelings and try do something with it, watch this space ---------. ((((ALLY))))) your a little ray of sunshine you are, I been keeping up with your journey, in you I see such strength, people see that in us when we don't feel it our selves, but hey there's a thing, even when we are in pain by sharing we are helping someone else feel better, how nice it that! hi there katy, Just wanted to share with you something my first sponsor said to me when i had my first slip....first she said..well..what did you expect, to be perfect and never slip. Slips happen. Then she said...hey, you are aware and that shows progress..remember it's progress not perfection. That kinda helped. I was try to be perfect in alanon. lol..i learned that as long as i'm learning i'm making progress. Hope that helps some. your friend in recovery, rosie
Unless it's a life changing feeling that I need to learn from, I normally don't try to disect it. I just work toward happines. The next higher feeling.
I hate being bummed out. To me, it's a waste of time and invasion of my joy. When I'm feeling a bit down, my process is to think of something wonderful, or something that I am grateful for and build up my feelings toward "the next best feeling". I can always manage to feel a bit better no matter what.
I always have to ask myself "how important is it"? If it's something I cannot change, I leave it behind me. My goal is to be and attract happiness in my life. I can't do it by worrying about things I can't change. What I can change is my outlook and up my happiness factor.

I know I became more aware of my feeligns and definately more in touch with them as I continued to work the steps with a sponsor and went to meetings. Time is a big factor here. Because I had no foundation for what my feelings were, how they worked, what role they had in my life, I genuinely had no real relationship to my feelings. The reality is taht I had to learn about my feelings. For me it begins with get it out, sort it out, live it out. Get out whatever's upsetting me, by journaling, talking, praying. Then sort out why it's upsetting me, by doing an inventory, talking with a sponsor, working with a professional. Then live it out, find a solution using the slogans, workign the steps, praying, whatever. Feelings do not have to hold me hostage. If I let them be a connection to god, they can hold me closer to my human ness.
