These past few weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions for me but amidst it all I can see that the program is working miracles in my life.
My sister addicted to opiates, went to detox and is attending meetings every day, she is a new person. However, I have found myself relating to her differently than I did in the past. I no longer give her advice, and I don't sacrifice my program to help her get to hers.
The 54 year sobriety medallion gift was such a rush, I can't even explain it. Yes I am Al-Anon but I have such enormous respect for people in the AA program and their survival and recovery.
My granddaughter, got drunk, fell down some steps, had to be taken to the hospital, was given a ticket for being drunk to the tune of $400 and when she asked me to help her with it I politely told her I could not, that it was her mess and she had to figure it out. I also threw in a few tidbits about the disease being in her family history and it might be something she would want to pay attention to. I did not go into a full panic mode as I would have prior to program. I took everything calmly and just said to myself, this is her's it's not mine and if I help her I am only hurting her.
My oldest grandson tried to commit suicide. Again I did not panic, I said a ton of prayers, got ahold of my church prayer line and simply said he is where he needs to be, the doctors will do what is necessary for him and I will go on with my day. We heard from our oldest son last night that things are going well, there are no permanent damages to his liver and my grandson is actually making plans to seek the type of recovery program that fits him.
In both cases I took things calmly, remembered what was mine and what was theirs and I know that they will be ok if I turn them over to my HP and then stay out of the way so he can do his work.
This program is the most awesome thing I have ever done for myself and it still amazes me how it works in all aspects of my life.
