I know I didn't Cause it I can't Control it I can't Cure it
I have heard in meetings that I can Contribute to the disease and I can Care. These were huge for me.Seeing my part in the family disease finally gave me something I could actually do about it. What is my part and how do I want to change that part? I can Care. That too was so awsome. I really thought I had to hate the A for all of the rotten, horrifying things he had done to me but at the same time I knew I still loved him. I was a mess with friends telling me that I should just leave him, he's not worth it, etc. I came here and y'all said that it was ok to care, to love him despite the disease. That knowledge gave me some peace.
Al-Anon has shown me that I have choices - I can decide that today a certain situation works for me - it may not tomorrow, but my God & I will handle that when we get there - today I have a choice to accept what I can for right now.
Commitment. To me. To a healthier way of life for me or at least a commitment to TRY.
Then of course there is always Conscience Contact with the God of my understanding. Which helps me with all the "C's"
Remember friends & family outside a program of recovery or those who have never been affected by alcoholism/addiction may never understand our reasonings, but that's ok - they don't have to - You just make the best choice you can for you today & trust your HP to guide you.
Peace, Rita

Confusion and Condesding huge for me. When I'm confused, frightened, and hurt, I get very condescending, sarcastic, hateful, grandiose and arrogant. Because I'm not willing to be honest with another human about my human-ness (god forbid I look weak!) I take it out on you. Be weary of false pride. There's usually a pothole somewhere lurking..
Ya'll left out "crap" hehehe You don't have to take it!! (just trying to get ya'll to smile today) ;) (((HUGS))))
Seriously, It was really hard for me to learn how to care without enabling and without making myself feel as if I was treating him TOO nice. I didn't want him to feel like he could still drink and have special treatment. It's really hard to not be an enabler, to still care, and keep my own sanity. That's why it all makes us sick as well.
all change involves consequences for everyone. I think just being aware of this makes it easier. I try to educate myself when I'm going through a change in my life, try to understand.
that way the consequences are easier to adapt to...just my thoughts...
Also try to be considerate. We are all different. For a long time I overlooked this. I just assumed we all acted and reacted the same. I was wrong. Now I practice understand and being considerate of others.
