My Ah is only a week clean and he knows that I am filing for a divorce and have already talked to the attorney but he wanted to come and see me and the kids so I let him. He knows my rules so he was not drinking. Even though it was only a weekend........it was the BEST weekend we have ever had. We took the kids to a birthday party and he was very involved with the kids and playing. I actually saw him smiling alot. We put out a blanket and watched a movie under the stars with the kids all curled up around us. (Our city had a movie screen blown up and was showing Ice Age 2) It was so nice. It was as close to God that we could have gotten. He had his arm around me and kept kissing my head so sweetly. THAT was the man I waited 8 years for. We went to church and all of his Sober Recovery friends welcomed him with open arms. We talked as friends with no argueing over anything. I was open about how I feel and what he was destroying and he agree'd that he wanted what we had this weekend. He would fight for it. Between you and me, I can't hold what he says to be truth. Alcoholics are notorious liers. Time will tell and so will his actions. But it was really nice. I'm glad I stuck to my guns about him drinking around me. He took me VERY serious and respected me. I don't know what will happen from here. I've learned to not look forward to a future with him so I will only take it day by day. I wanted to share it with you all since our posts are so often about how they screw up. Mine did something right for once!!!!!!!!! Yea!! My kids needed THAT daddy to show up. ;) Thanks for letting me share.
(((((((friend)))))) I'm so glad you enjoyed your time together. With alcoholics, I believe you have to take what you can get when you can get it -- as long as you remember that you're with an alcoholic. I like it that you set boundries and he respected them. I hope you'll continue to be firm in setting the boundries and that you and your children can have this enjoyment from time to time. If it's good for you, it's good for him. I know you won't forget who you're dealing with and you deserve the best.
Glad to hear you had a great weekend. I love these moments when everything is NORMAL! I'm glad you realize you can't hold your breath too.... to take it one day at a time.... <hugs> I wish the best for you and your family! :)
