The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
So I went to a new meeting tonight. I had never been to this location and it was dark and raining and...well you get the picture, I was late going in because I got lost (being my first time to this location) So I walk in, I see an al-anon sign, I see a brightly lit room with coffee set up, so for sure this must be the room, right? Anyway I see about 20 men and 2 women, this is not the "face" of al-anon I'm use to seeing, well they motion for me to come over and sit, so I click my way over to a chair (loud shoes) and then they say "You're here for GA, right?" NO, I'm in the wrong place. Oh well kinda embarrassing, but a little funny too. As far as I know I don't have a gambling problem....yet. But if I ever do, I'll know where to go!!
I've heard this kind of story before - and sometimes the people stayed and realized that maybe they belonged there after all! Sometimes it's the hand of God, and sometimes it's only a cigar.
I am so glad you can be so gracious about it. When I get to the wrong places (which happens often) I often am so overcome with frustration and anxiety. I have little space in my life for grace and diplomacy.
I've heard many speaker tapes where the Alanon said when the 12th step call came to take their spouse to a meeting, they took the spouse to an alanon meeting and they rushed the Alanon into the same room because THEY looked like the ones who were a wreck ! LOL

((Moon)) One of the things I've learned about the "sister" 12 step programs: They're always founded in love. Even if you had stayed, I have a feeling that you wouldn't have felt out of place, because each person is (hopefully) there working on them. Thanks for a great story.
