Well, it seems I have been trying to keep myself in denial about a situation. I think I am not there anymore. My younger son is an A also. I would not call him an A before but I will now. I wouldn't call him an A because he could go for weeks without drinking and then tie one on for an entire weekend. After reading many, many posts here I realize he is a binge drinker. It is now causing problems in his marriage that he will not face. He is using all the excuses...works his butt off...is very bored when his wife has to work on weekends....yada, yada, yada!
He actually went out the other night when his wife was asleep in the middle of the night. She had been drinking with him earlier and I guess he was pretty sure she would not wake up. Anyway, by coincidence I found out about it before she did. I won't go in to all those details.
He thinks that what he did is nothing to be concerned about....going to an after hours place and coming home early in the am. He knows it was wrong or he would not have had to sneak out...he would have told her.
He has always been concerned about becoming an A because of all the alcoholics in our family. I know he doesn't want to believe it has happened to him but sadly, it has.
Thank God he has not had any children yet and I am in a much better place now to deal with it. If his wife decides one day that she will leave him then she will return to Japan to be with her family....ok now I am projecting...gotta stop!
Hate so much to hear about your younger son. My heart was breaking as I read your post - how sad. Will continue to keep you, your son & his wife in my thoughts & prayers.
Love & Hugs my friend, Rita

Sending you much love and blessings to you and your family. Maybe, maybe he'll wake up and see what's going on. It's so heartbreaking to see how it can continue in families. I would have thought that my cousins would have seen what was going on with their Mom and that would have "stopped" them from becoming As. We all know how that worked out. It truly is a family disease. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

It's your life. Take no prisoners. You will have it your way.
Sending you many hugs and support. Isn't this disease all around all of us? It is never-ending. Sometimes I think that the prohibition of alcohol was not such a bad thing at all, though alcoholics would find it anyhow.
One thing I have learned though, is that there is always hope. It may take some years of partying to find his path, but hopefully your son can either curtail his drinking or come to a point where it is just not a part of him anymore. I pray for that for you and for all As to find their path in life.
