In last night's meeting someone said Detachment for us is like not drinking is for the A. Wow really got me thinking. A has not been drinking this time since Thanksgiving and I have been trying to detach. This has been going on for both of us for sometime with many relapses. I notice when A gets too uncomfortable with his sobriety he goes back to drinking. When I become inpatient or things aren't going the way I want I try to take back "my control" and force my will by attaching again. It seems neither of us has fully surrendered and yes we are very much alike in our addictions.
Just had to share my take on that. Take what you like and leave the rest.
Good insight. I remember when I told A to leave the last time. I kept saying: "God he's in your hands." I had no idea what was going to happen. But at some point I had to let him do what he had to, lest I end up in an early grave with him. Wasn't easy, but it was the best thing I did for myself. Now we are healthy (almost) and pretty happy most of the time. He's past his 8 month mark, which is where he would always relapse. So that's a positive sign. Continued luck with A's sobriety.
Love and blessings to you and your family.
