my ex kindly shared with me at some point in our life together that crack addicts break off the antena on cars to clean their pipes. i think he was proud that he never did that to our car. lol! also, steel wool. used as a screen. and the singed eyelases or eyebrows. i so wish i didn't know these things.
My brother told me that there are houses where the heroin addict or crack addict can go and they supply the needles and you pay like $3.00 at the door to just go in and shoot up. All the windows are blacked out, ect. I found this appauling.
I totally understand. When I found out my children's father was dealing drugs, I had to do a quick study on what to watch for. I am like you ..... I wish I didn't know any of this; however, in today's world unfortunately, we have to inform ourselves of what to watch for ... knowledge is power ... when used correctly.
EEK Handing out needles???? I hope they were new!!! Scary thought there. I sure wish every area would support a needle exchange program I mean really if you're a junkie, what are you gonna spend your $3 on a clean needle or some more dope? Scary.
i bring it up because someone asked in another post about signs of crack addiction. i wrote it out to help others who might be questioning. crack addiction can be a very scary thing for the other person involved. i also was very scarred from the years of binging and not being able to speak openly about my husbands crack addiction because of the stigma attached. i wanted to cry tears of joy the first time i heard another alanoner speak of it in a meeting. personally, i wish someone had given me signs to be wary of. that way i might have been able to better protect myself, my kids and our home. what you don't know can hurt you. no sense living in denile.
I don't mention it because of it's crack orientation, more like it's co-dependent orientation
To me it's like saying...
"I found another way that alcoholic's hide when their drinking/using"
example
"They use listerine mouthwash because it's more powerful to 'kill' the smell that alcohol leaves on their breath....so be on the look-out, if your __________ is buying listerine, than they may be drinking"
Sounds a little co-dependent don't ya think?
Bottom line...how is knowing any of that going to help you in your recovery? If you're checking up on thier using (looking for signs), than you are probably in the co-dependent stage, not in the denile stage.
lol. yes, i see what you're saying but what i am saying is that when i came out of denile i came fully out of denile. facts are just facts. my codepenant tendencies have to do with my feelings surrounding the facts. i have been asked many times about crack addiction from very scared spouses. these are the facts i have learned. take what you need and leave the rest. i certainly don't try to give them info then take their inventory on how they deal with the facts. i share honestly about all aspects of how this disease has effected me and my family. by sharing honestly and being right where i am supposed to be i have recieved the help i have needed and been able to pass it along. i am grateful for the wisdom that has been passed on to me including all the signs and symptoms of this disease....not just my symptoms but the alcoholics also. i don't ever want to go back to the days when i didn't have the knowledge to be able to make the best decision for me and my kids. i have been around long enough to have the awarness of denile, obsession, anger, resentments, detatchment as they pertane to me. i will keep comming so that i can continue put these concepts into practice everyday. if someone needs to know signs of crack addiction or alcoholism i will gladly share openly what i have learned so that they might make an informed decision about what they want to do or not do about their life. having this knowledge does not make me co dependant. what i choose to do with these facts is what may trigger my disease, my codependant tendencies.
