Although I'm here almost everyday reading the post, responding to some, I haven't posted in a while and thought I should update you a bit. I am doing great, I can't tell people enough how much my counseling I had to go through and my posting here, reading here, and focusing on me has helped. I miss my mom everyday and feel her with me on rough days. I love my job and my short (6 1/2 mile) commute! My A and I are getting along better then we ever have. The last 5 to 6 months he said it is like a light went on, he doesn't understand what has happened but he wants to come home. His personal tabs at the bar have went from $100 or more to $20.....He drinks but not like the last 6 years. He shares his day with me and is really interested in what is going on with me. His best friend seems to be in a progressed state of alcoholism. 2 to 3 drinks makes him really drunk and working side jobs is becoming an aggravation to my A. It is sad to watch. We actually sit and talk about stuff. I feel free as in I feel after years of worrying about him I have that "detachment" my life is my own and doesn't revolve around what my A is doing. I am learning to live in the present. It is an incredible feeling. I do my readings daily, some days even more than one reading. I know that I will have to work on me everyday. So I guess that's it....just wanted you to know, for now there is no crisis, has only been one in the last 4 or 5 months. I love coming to the board! Know that you are all in my heart and prayers. Hugs Mary
I am so glad to hear things are smoothing out. You are so good to know that this does take work, even though things seem to be okay, you still have to take care of you! That is a big realization, and necessary to know, in case another "crisis" god forbid happened. I know it seems for me, too that things are looking up, but you have to really live in the moment, you are right, and cherish each breath you have.
Thanks for your positive update! It is so nice to know that your A is paying attention and is really interested in your life. Quite a turnaround from the active alcoholism behavior. It is so wonderful to have your buddy back, isn't it? I'm glad for you both!! Prayers for all of you, and your husband's A friend, too. There is nothing more sad than watching someone decline, as we both know.
