I've been being nice to myself for quite a few months now. Those little things a gourmet chocolate once a week, extra dog treats for Sully, taking the time to comb thru resale places for cheap cashmere I could not afford new. I've done so well at getting used to being nice to myself that these little things no longer feel like nice things (they are of course) but more things I deserve, that are my right. Not things to give up just so I can take care of one more responsibility that is not mine.
When did I forget that those little quirky things made up a BIG part of my personality? Without those little choices of what do I want today or which chocolate do I want .... rose garden, ohm, grey salt caramel, 82% cacao ... orange, green, pink, blue, black what color do I want this in .... what could I use this <whatever> for? All these little things make me interesting if only to myself.
The image of the little drudgery girl is fading. And although at the moment I do not have a big positive picture of myself in my mind at least I see someone who is OK, not ragged, stressed and sad.
I don't notice posts reminding us to do something just a small something nice for ourselves as much anymore, so please everyone do something nice for yourself just once in a while ... it can lead to wonderful things.
Thanks for the reminder to take special time for ourselves! I think sometimes we just get busy with things and of course, forget to do that "something nice" just for us. And we need to remember to do this since we all deserve it.
And I agree, its all those "little quirky things" that make us who we are.....make us all unique.
