The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method

information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
A few weeks ago, I realized how fully and completely I was struggling with my concept of my HP. I realized that part of the reason I was having trouble staying connected to my HP was that I still have this image of my HP as a punishing, vengeful God. Interestingly enough my image of my HP and the qualities of my A father very much overlapped. So, I have been working on redefining my HP for myself, and one thing that has really helped was becoming aware of how multi-dimensional my HP is. As I began to redefine my HP for myself (see below), I also began to realize that, just like some of our literature says, in an alcholic home, the alcholic rules the home like a god, and so my entire family bowed down to fear, insecurity, and insanity. And, this has lead to the wonderful revelation, that I don't have to bow down to those gods of fear, insecurity, and insanity ANYMORE! When a situation is insane, I can choose sanity. When a situation is scaring me, I can turn to my God for a safe haven.
I thought I would share the new conception of my HP below whom I found partially be reading through Al-Anon literature....
In a world that is unloving, my God is love.
In a world that is harsh, my God is gentle, caring, and concerned.
In a world that is unforgiving, my God is mercy.
In a world that is unjust, my God is justice.
In a world that is chaotic, my God is serenity.
In a world that is insane, my God is sanity.
In a world that is miserable, my God is joy!
In a world that is stingy, my God is generous.
In a world that is narrow and without options, my God is creative and full of choices!
In a world of addiction and sickness, my God offers recovery, and wellness.
In a world that is insecure and unpredictable, my God is steadfast.
In a world that is scary, my God is a safe haven and a soft place to fall.
