Life's good, kids are more grown and reached that wonderful stage of being able to use public transport independently and make a sandwich.
Life is so much different on the outside looking in to how it was when i first fell into the supportive arms of this board ten years ago.
But from the inside looking out, there are still times when I feel like this is not so.
The AH never did get a program though he did stop drinking. I never did follow through on divorce. The marriage is an odd and perpetual state of limbo where neither of us particularly approve of each other. I think I'm only around in his world because I represent security. He's only around in my world because I feel thus stupid sense of obligation.
Obligation is something I need to really examine at a deep level.

a4l, it is great to hear from a long-time member. 10 years ago, Betty was alive and this board was thriving. Welcome back!
The marriage described above, is very familiar to me. That limbo state, both people unhappy, just kind of getting through day to day....But this program, and recently ACA/dysfunctional families, have and are helping me move forward in my own way. I have a condo an hour away near my son and I live there half the week. My A finally is in recovery, but after 33 years of pain, it's almost too little too late. I've grown and changed and feel differently about lots of things. I have gotten stronger and put myself first most of the time. I enjoy many parts of life. And this marriage is in the backseat. And I'm fine with that. Since I only have one day at a time to think about, I no longer obsess about the future. One foot in front of the other; that's where I'm heading.

As long as there is alcoholism, there will be those affected by it and looking for a landing space.
I don't have any 12 step readers but will try to dig out some online resources to post and discuss.
The state of this board is a day at a time thing for me at the moment. It's the best I can do.
I think of Betty, Jerry F, Pink Pinkchip, John and many others who were so there for me all those years ago when literally it felt like there was no one who got it.
