If you're a Father, a Dad, and your kid isn't doing well . . . .

Sure, I know that Mom's worry, too, but since today is Father's Day, I wanted to offer some hope to any hurting Dad's - yeah, we Dads do have feelings and we hurt, too, when our kids are in a bad place. My son was in a bad place for a long, long time - and his bad decisions took their toll on me, too. But today he's healthy, and working at a good job, he's married, he just had a beautiful little daughter, and he bought a house, too - and the important thing to remember here - he did all that on his own, and NOTHING - NOTHING that I did trying to get him better mad a difference - it was his decision (along with some significant motivating events that I had nothing to do with) that helped him decide to get on a better path.
Hang in there, guys - try and follow the wisdom that our program puts in front of you - have faith, don't give up - HAVE HOPE !!

Hope you don't mind a mom responding, because I had a similar situation with my son. Especially in high school, after I divorced his A father, my son was using, nasty, and out of control. Thank God he was willing to see his school social worker, who happened to also be an addiction counselor, and he got straightened out. It took about 2 years, and I attended sessions for the second year. My son was so angry at me sometimes he wouldn't show up for the session right in his school! And now fast forward many years, he's doing very well in his own business, and he and I are very close. And guess what--he has a teenage daughter who's not using, but angry and moody and payback is a bitc-. He and I laugh about it but my granddaughter isn't easy. All parents have a very difficult job, and kids do not want to listen to their parents. I agree, have faith, have hope, and don't give up.

"Hope you don't mind a mom responding" - of course not ! LOL, the more the merrier. I was just focusing on Dads because I posted on Father's Day, and because I'm a Dad - also, I know that it's not meant to come across like it often does, but sometimes I read how this stuff is so much worse for a Mother, or that only a Mother can understand how bad it feels - trust me, this terrible disease has no favorites - EVERYONE who loves their alcoholic child suffers - Dads, too.
