ODAT in Alanon, Monday, 7/3, stumbling blocks vs stepping stones

The writer talks about using stumbling blocks to step on--another words, not let them block our path. Alcoholism brings troubles that can be terrifying. Obstacles do not have to keep us from finding the good in our lives unless we allow it. Alanon invites us to change the view we have of ourselves and the world we are creating around us.

I can recall many times when stumbling blocks appeared in my circumstances; I felt defeated. Now I was doomed, life would be miserable, and why does this happen to me? Perhaps this was my lot in life. What a way to live! I am changing the way I view obstacles--they present new challenges, I need to be creative and find solutions, and I have help from my alanon family and HP if need be. And as I overcome them (we all have obstacles at times), I can feel proud of myself and acknowledge my growth. It's truly a new way to live. Grateful member.

Thank you {{Lyne}} for your service, today's reading and ESH.
I agree that Al-Anon and HP have helped me to see and sense that the "stumbling blocks" in my life are
actually stepping stones for me that represent a chance to find a better way to look at and live my life
despite the issues/chaos and anxiety. I had one such issue a few days ago that I posted about and
I can honestly say that this morning, I am in a perfect state of mind. I put all that I cannot change
in God's hands and prayed to him that I am so grateful for what I do have. Thank you Al-Anon!!

Thank you Lyne for your service, both for your ESH...love this page!
When I find myself focusing on all of the things I cannot change, it can feel overwhelming. In that way, this feeling serves as an indicator, a behavioral alarm that I'm looking at the wrong things and with an unhealthy perspective.
When I stay focused on looking for solutions and limit my efforts to what I can change, what feels like a crisis can turn into a manageable challenge with my higher power doing the heavy lifting.
