Todays reading is about the feeling of connectedness and support we can find in a place outside of our family of origin: our alanon group. The writer describes having had some negative reactions to the word home, not knowing what to expect there, being worried about having friends there, and feeling more like there was a desire to escape from home rather than to it. Through alanon the writer began to develop stronger familial connections and began to feel the benefits of consistency, acceptance and emotional depth. I have always felt that my family of origin was with me unconditionally and with love and support. That said, having a group of people that not only understand the effects of alcoholism but are willing to talk about it freely has been life changing. I can say that whether in a face to face meeting, or writing here, I have been able to express all thoughts and feelings and have never felt judged in any way. For me- alanon did not provide a family feeling that I never had before, but instead has been an enhancement in that regard.
Our thought for the day: The world is much larger than my family of origin.
I hope everyone enjoys a peaceful Sunday and start to 2023:)

Thank you so much {{Mary}} for today's New Year reading, your service and ESH.
I agree that having a home of origin does give me the place to feel my familiar connections to my
family of origin but MIP gives me the added benefit of having a place to go to talk about alcoholism
which has, like you, changed my life. I am forever grateful to the MIP Family and to the teachings
of Al-Anon. Happy New Year to you and the MIP Family!!

Good morning and Happy New Year
I am grateful to be back here once again,to feel connected and have the familiarity of this place. While i may not really have a family of origin to connect with or to receive love and support I know I can come here and receive what I am lacking.
It's a new year, and I am beginning many new changes and challenges for myself and my life. I look forward to not being alone on this journey.
