Todays reading (a bit short and sweet today) talks to us about the grief caused by the damage
and loss of loved ones/friends due to the disease of alcoholism.
The reading goes on to say that part of dealing with that grief is admitting to oneself how the
effects of alcoholism changed their life and accept that moving on to a life filled with gratefulness,
although not easy, is what we should strive for.
Al-Anon steps and tools, belonging to this group and reading everyday Al-Anon literature has
helped me to slowly reach that goal of living a life of gratefulness.
Has Al-Anon helped you in that way as well?

Thanks Debbie.
It definitely has. In the first place it helped me distance and protect from harmful situations and behaviour, but it also helped me appreciate those experiences for the growth opportunities they gave me, the positive experiences that were mixed in with the bad, and it also helps me help others. I'm not one of those people that insists that every bad thing that happens is a blessing but al-anon has taught me to find the positives instead of only seeing the negatives and living life full of resentment and regret and I guess the opposite of that is gratitude!

Thanks Debbie for your service and for all above ESH. One of the problems of alcoholism I live with is the anticipation that my A is going to have a shortened life due to food and alcohol addiction. I guess it's anticipatory loss that I have been dealing with for years. Alanon helps me with many parts of this problem, like I no longer try to force solutions, I pray every day to have compassion, and yes, I am able to feel gratitude about many areas of my life, in spite of many painful situations. Prior to program, I was stuck in anger, resentment, and despair. I'm grateful for many positive changes on my end.

Thank you for all shares. MIP dug me out of a pit of despair and self pity. The tools in Al-Anon gave me stability during the pandemic, and basic step work gave me courage to improve myself. Recently I was in a strange space, however, MIP kept the light on. I would welcome postings on slogans . Sometimes I feel like I'm in kindergarten and slogans are all I can manage. :)
