The writer says that prayer has importance, and that we may think a prayer many times a day i.e. help me not brood over this injury. Prayer is simply reaching out to make contact with a power that is greater than ourselves. It reminds us that we are powerless over many things, especially in efforts to find peace and security.

I pray every morning and do talk to my HP throughout the day. Do I expect a lightening bolt to come down from the sky and fix everything for me? Heck no. But it does provide a certain level of comfort. It reminds me that I am not alone, and need others to get through this life of mine. It reminds me to be humble and practice humility. And it puts the disease of alcoholism in perspective--there is help and it takes work to receive the benefits. I cannot fix my A but I am fixing myself. Grateful member.

Thank you Lyne for your service and agree with you and Daffodils, that setting aside a time
everyday to be grateful is so important to me to maintain my perspective.

Thank you Lyne and all above for your ESH...
When I found Alanon, I didn't want anything to do with God, and certainly not prayer, but I was willing to try to find a way to make the program work.
Alanon encouraged me to make my higher power anything I wanted that worked for me, which I was able to do, then I set about my aversion to prayer.
I dug into the meaning of the word and found that can also simply mean 'earnest or urgent request'. That worked well for me as it was closer to what I was truly doing.
ALanon encouraged me with the freedom to find a way within its framework to leverage the power of tools that I once thought were reserved for true believers. It turns out that Alanon tools can work for anyone, even a man of little faith.
Today, I am a true believer in the power of ALanon, and grateful for wisdom, freedom, and Serenity I have been blessed with by coming back working it long enough for it to make an incredible difference in my life
