In today's reading, the author reflects on progress. Progress can be hard to recognize, especially if we are comparing ourselves to some idealized person, or if our standards are unrealistically high. We can be disappointed. However, comparing our present circumstances to our past can help us to see the progress. Focusing on the direction rather than perfection can help us stay motivated.
Today's reminder: as a result of hard work on An-anon and a willingness to change, I am moving in a positive direction. I will celebrate my progress today. I know that the process of recovery will continue to help me grow forward a better way of living.
Today's quote: "keep adding little by little and you will soon have a big hoard." Latin proverb

Today's reading is a good reminder for me to focus on my own journey, see the progress I am making, and not get distracted by my perception of how others are. It is always useful for me to remember not to compare my inner turmoil to others' outward appearances.

Thanks Skorpi...just what I needed as I get back in gear. In the last week I've worked myself into exhaustion with spring cleaning tasks . I also took care of my medical/dental /tax/hair appointments . Progress? I haven't hovered over my husband worried about what the doctor will reveal on Friday. I've given him space to deal with his feelings in the manner he deems fit. I chat with my HP and only mentioned it to MIP, sponsor and Mom. That's progress for me- no obsessing and assuming the worst. Grateful for being graced with Al-Anon. Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Thanks Skorpi and Daffodils. Good reminders for me coming from our slogan, Progress not Perfection. I can focus on everything that is not right, or I can see where I was 3-6 months ago and recognize positive change. I'm powerless over others, but thank God I have some control over me!

Thank you Skorpi and for all the shares. Today I started making calls down the phone list until I dialed someone who had a few minutes to chat. She was a good listener and I appreciated the feedback about progress. I thought back to my first Alanon days many years ago, when I had a similar spinning feeling. I realized that while it felt the same, it is not - I now have a program to lean into and different skills. I may not like the choices but I can chose one that will serve me well, even if I may not feel good right away. It's also a good reminder to focus on what is right rather than to be stuck in the mire of what is not right.
