This contributor tried this 'just for today: do not be afraid of anything', actively addressed lingering dread to expose their imaginative basis, and let previous days' troubles expire...Why? God is driving the bus, let him...accept the guidance and protection...
What was left over? A shiny new day, free of past troubles and future worries...
Reminder - Living this one day, each day, keeps us from exerting valuable resources on the 'might's of the next minute, hour, day...
Focus on the good things of the now and that is what we will see ...choosing to extend this state of serenity and satisfaction will change our life.
"I remember a ditty that said: 'Never trouble until trouble troubles you." - unknown ---------------------- One of the incredible breakthrough concepts I was guided toward in Alanon was the concept of staying in the moment of selective focus.
Step 11 encouraged me to strengthen my ability to intentionally select my focus through meditative practice, and learn to turn the responsibility for all things outside of my control (which are most) over to my higher power.
This has, and continues to, change my life...when I let it. Grateful for the reminders and wisdom

Thanks Paul for your service and share. Before recovery, I thought how silly it was: one day at a time. I did not see the profound implications this slogan has! I now hold this phrase dear to me as it helps me often. Let me just live this one day I have right now. The past is behind me and the future has not happened. If I can make the most our of this one 24 hr period, then I am living in the present. (Most of my earlier life was stuck in the past and/or worrying about the future.). ODAT makes so much sense. It leads me towards serenity.

Thanks Paul for your service and the daily. The daily and continuous practice of being in this moment, not yesterday, tomorrow or even an hour ago truly sets me free - even if I cycle back/forward. There are days where it's a continuous effort and there are days where it's more natural.
What I do know and hold onto is I truly have been amazed at various outcomes that I did not expect, project, imagine or consider. Time and time again, when I have spent wasted energy and resources thinking/planning for/projecting worse case scenario - not even remotely close to reality.
I choose to be free from the past, present in the here/now and leave the future to another day/time. I'm so grateful for the many lessons and tools we're given in recovery. One Day at a Time is one of the first I consciously practiced and continue to do so today.
Happy Tuesday all - I'm loving our mild fall/winter - it was a great day (a bit windy) for golf with friends...we took advantage and plan to do so again tomorrow, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. The weather for Thanksgiving is not as good - I get to cook all day (and eat) instead!!
