There (for me) is no way of measuring perfection and so I stay away from the subject. I am certainly not qualified to discuss that subject but then how do I handle progress? I can inventory honestly the recovery attributes of in this case my significant (very) other, Al-Anon spouse with my Higher Power encouraging honesty.
At breakfast time she said "Today is my 33rd anniversary in recovery" and I asked myself "so how is that going"? Honest response...?? I cannot ask for anything better and don't.
She is wonderful at every level we participate in and certainly for me to attempt any negatives I would be cheating the inventory process attempting to have my score be higher. Can't do it...Wont even get close.
Happy Anniversary Maurine and I Love You. ((((hugs)))) and Mahalo Nui. .

{{{{Jerry}}}} - thank you for sharing this wonderful moment!
I am not too sure about perfection. A friend said recently, "I worship imperfection," and I am reflecting on that. I think imperfection could be more interesting than perfection -- and it certainly leaves room for progress, which can give purpose to my life.
Have a great day!

Awesome share brother - please, please pass along a 'way to go girl' from me to your wife, Maurine!!! I tried for so, so long to do and be perfect and it just never happened for me. Imagine how relieved I was when those wiser in recovery than I told me that's not the end game at all! It's about progress - always, progress.
I figure that each day I wake, I'm making progress simply by being willing. (((Hugs))) and hope you two have a glorious day!!

"Willing...willingness...much the important attitude of our programs. Thanks sister for mentioning those attitudes and characters because they had and have to be with us from the start whether early A.M. or end of the day. I attach those characteristics along with the Serenity Prayer, the steps, slogans and desire to be sane and happy. Maurine's 33 years includes my own time so we are doing this together will all of you and the world-wide family ESH.
"Grateful...Gratitude...without these and others willingness cannot and will not attend with peace of mind and serenity. That's like having my candy bar without the dark chocolate on top...and then the tantrum. LOL
Thank God for our program and for this loving family who cares soooo much for each others.
Don had a favorite question for me whenever we got together..."So how's it going"? He always expected truth.

This post is a great reminder: progress should be enough and the pitfalls that come with expectations of perfection. Got it. Need a daily reminder of this. I say: I need to live in the moment/ODAT. I wasnt doing that and its bit me in the behind. Things took a terrible turn. It was an important lesson for me to learn. Thank you for your post.

Im laughter and losses are accepted fall backs for us and my spouse reminds me this morning that in the 34 years of marriage we have when we take it one day at a time the fall backs are often small and caring. Work the program. (((hugs)))
