What happens to us is not as important as how we respond.
The external events of our lives are largely beyond our control. We did not choose our parents, our emotional environment, the age in which we live, our body type, or the flow of circumstances that shape our experience. These are givens. We do not select them, but we can choose how we will react to them, and in that choice lies our freedom and our responsibility. we can react or we can respond..
Instead of complaining about the hand we've been dealt, we can concentrate on playing it well. This is the way we exercise our freedom. What might appear to be random chance can take on meaning and purpose as we delve for insight and use our deficiencies as opportunities for growth.
Our responsibility is to do the best we can with what we have where we are. And we don't do it alone. We have our Al-anon support group, We have others ESH showing us that we are not alone and that this too shall pass.. we have a Higher Power, and we have an inner guide if we will slow down and listen for direction.
Today, I will remember that the what of my life is not as important as the how.

Oh I remember all I did was gripe gripe and gripe some more and oh I was the victim---Life was out to get me and I just kept bringing more negativity to me because I was focused on that and not the "OK, it is what it is..feel my feelings and then what is the next right thing I can do for me???"
SLOWLY, I am realizing that life is NOT out to get me, I am not that big for life to be so obsessed with me, so now I just see stuff as "OK..stuff happens, feel the feelings, come to releasing them and then grab the Al-anon tool box and use my tools" even if it is to just walk away and let go...HP will work if I get out of my own way and let the universe take over what I cannot control....so really I am not helpless, I DO have choice, even if it is to cry, pray and have to walk away, I DID something...the best I could with the tools that I had...Sometimes I back off and whalla, the problem either disolves or solves it self or help arrives, but I must not resist...what I resist and fight will persist....

It is our perspective and fears of being hurt that if we allow will control our life and environment.
Living in the present and not projecting gloom and doom in the future has always helped me too!!

This is a cool topic and perspective-thanks for the share/s and the service.
I have recognised from going through this thread that regarding the hand I got, well, I always considered it a dud hand and sought a reshuffle! Sometimes that manifests as perfectionism which is a total waste of energy I now see. Other times that manifests as space cadet. As I get older--man I love getting older!-- I have started to ground into my life, and take practical steps to what I want to acheive. It feels good! I no longer look at my hand as a dud hand. I look at it as divinely planned and really take comfort from a lot of recovery and spiritual slogans.
